to grant a wish is the power of the sun: this is the luxury given to those of the royal line, a gift of might resting heavy on their shoulders. it is not only their duty but their compassion for the people that drive them to grant their wishes, to nurture them like children so they will continue to gain strength. a country and a king is only as mighty as its people, and seul knows this well. and though she is but a princess, there are times when even women of the court can seek to help the people grow. ( even though he is but one of the many, he will serve the many and it is all the same. )
it only just so happens that seul’s desire to be closer falls in line with the wish of a subject, and it’s for this reason she decides that, just once, it would be all right to grant it.
to an aching heart, there is nothing that will stop the pull of gravity - not even in the way she hides herself beneath a cloak of stars, to make herself invisible to the passersby in town square. seul keeps her head down as fabric touches her cheek, counting steps until she arrives at the home of the right state councillor. her attendant is nervous, visibly so, but the princess hushes her with a warning sound - it would not do to now get caught, when they’re already so close to where she needs to be.
jung hyukun has made a wish, and it is one that yi seul plans to keep.
and that is how she ends up at his side, feeling her blood run cold at the sight of him. to look upon him ill is enough to break her heart and sink to his side slowly. seul bites her lip in an attempt to bite back tears, the aching sound of sympathy that lingers somewhere in her throat. he’s sleeping now, and she doesn’t want to wake him - even though it looks fitful, even though he looks like he’s in pain.
she’s never been around a person as sick as he is and it leaves her at a loss. how is she to comfort him when she does not know what’s right to do? seul takes a look around the room, knowing well that it’s empty - her attendant was forced to stand outside and no one would dare interrupt the princess without permission. so she looks back down to hyukun, looks at the crease on his forehead and lays her hand to it in an effort to ease him from some misery. any effort to quell her tears by now were all in vain. “ please, spare him.”
she begs to gods she hopes are listening. the only thing seul can really offer is a prayer, and the comfort of her hand.
⎨ IN THESE DREAMS, IT’S ALWAYS YOU ⎬ @dalhyukun
