illya had been tasked with capturing a rogue kgb agent, one that had killed a colleague, an act that was unforgivable to him –unless there had been valid reason for her actions. from the information he was briefed with, there had been no concrete motive making her more of a threat against civilians causing her to be a top priority.
❝you might have escaped me once, hayley,❞ taking a few steps towards her, he kept his guard up just in case she tried to attack him. ❝but this time you won’t be so lucky.❞
DID HE REALLY BELIEVE she would be so easy to capture? it had been weeks since she escaped the clutches of her captors, ones she once considered colleagues, and there was little way she would return to them, now that she knew just what they were capable of. they trained her to be the best, take in her surroundings, and always be on guard. that didn’t lessen when she came face-to-face with illya, taking an instinctive step back when he took one forward.
“you call it luck. i call it skill.” if only she had the skill to remain out of his line of sight for a bit longer. “if you think i’m going to bow my head and go back, you’re wrong. you’ll have to kill me first, and i have it on good authority, you can’t. ever ask yourself why they would keep me alive? after what i’ve supposedly done?”
