<i>"On the river I'm floating in Underwater I'm diving into the ocean A thousand black water lilies." @trans-legendary-defenders Day 5: Free Day I'm late I know forgive me ~:~ It was no secret that Lance loved to swim, his lion was the element of water for goodness sake. He had a swimmer's body and was the best in the swim team at his school, though that may have had something to do with the fact he was a selkie. Lance loved the ocean, it was where most of his days were spent after all. It was where he felt the most comfortable and where he could be himself. When he went to the Garrison he brought his coat with him, despite being surrounded by desert with no water in sight, it gave him comfort and a sense of home. Sometimes he would wear it when he was alone in his room, or sometimes he would sleep with it. Thankfully his roommate didn't judge or question him about it too much. In fact, they actually became quite close, and told each other some of their secrets. Hunk was the first friend he ever told that he was a selkie, and in return Hunk told him he was transgender. But then they went into space, a place far, far away from Earth, far far away from his family, far far away from his coat. It was hard, his main bit of comfort was left back on Earth. He felt naked without his coat, it was like a second skin, it was his second skin. He just felt weird and out of place. But one day they visited a planet, a planet surrounded mostly in water, a planet where a merman like species lived. It reminded him of home. After a long time of endless begging from most of the Paladins, Allura and Coran allowed them to have the day off for vacation. While the others went shopping for souvenirs Lance went to get ready to go swimming in the lake. He had on his armor under-suit when he passed by Keith in the halls of the castle. "Keith? What're you still doing on here?" Lance asked, looking a bit confused. Keith looked mildly surprised as he turned to face Lance. "I uh, just didn't feel like shopping or anything," he replied, rubbing his arm as he glanced around. "Unacceptable!" Lance declared, "You're always cooped up in this castle anyway, it's about time you went into the outside world!" He then reached out to grab his wrist as he dragged him down the halls. "Now come on! We're going swimming!" "Swimming?" "Yep! And I won't take no for an answer Keithy-boy." Lance continued to run down the halls until they made their way outside into the blue-green world. Keith having given up all attempts of protest against Lance and just following along with him. They finally arrived at the lake, which was a shimmering teal color, it reminded Lance of the ocean, with the light reflecting off of it, the endless stretches of water, the gentle waves. He dropped his towel on the golden sand walking slowly into the water, sighing happily at the warm feeling on his ankles. He turned back toward Keith with a smile, "Aren't you coming in?" "Uh… I'm good here thanks," he replied sitting down on lances towel on the shore. "That's no fun," Lance pouted, stepping out the water and grabbing a Keith's hands, lifting him up, "When's the next time we'll ever go to an alien beach?" "There's a pool in the castle you know," Keith replied, shrugging nonchalantly, as if the idea of going to an alien lake on a different planet was an everyday thing. Which it kinda was but this one was actually safe to swim in. "I know but still," Lance huffed, exasperated, "Please? It's boring to swim alone." Keith was about to refuse again, before he looked at Lance's face, he looked like he genuinely wanted Keith to join in, and Shiro did say they should try to bond more after all. The black haired teen sighed, "Fine." He almost smiled at Lance's excited grin, he'd be lying if he said he didn't like it when he made Lance smile. "But I can't go swimming in my clothes," he spoke. "You just just strip down into your underwear," Lance waved a hand carelessly, "It's basically what I did." With that he headed back into the water, pulling the pant sleeves up to his knees as he waded into the water before diving in. "Okay…" Keith began to remove his clothes as he watched Lance swim around. It was so different and almost mesmerizing to see Lance swim, he wasn't clumsy when he walked, kinda the opposite really, but he appeared much more graceful in the water. Keith compared him to a mermaid or a seal, realizing they both moved in similar ways. He hesitated a bit when it came to removing the sports bra, debating whether or not it was safe to swim in it. "Hey! Come on let's go!" Lance shouted, floating around in the water a bit, watching him. "Just a second!" He replied, doing a trick he was taught when he was younger on how to remove his bra yet still keep on his shirt. He quickly slipped it off and ran into the lake, water splashing around him as he ran. Swimming forward to Lance, who had ducked under the water at the moment. He rose back up and wiped his eyes,"Bought time you joined." Lance smiled a bit teasingly, running a hand through his wet hair. "I thought you didn't know how to swim." Keith rolled his eyes, "Just because I lived in a desert doesn't mean I don't know how to swim," the other teen responded. "Well I've lived in the ocean my whole life, and my element is water, so I'm a better swimmer than you," Lance stated smugly. The black haired teen chuckled, crossing his arms and he kicked his legs to keep him afloat, "Whatever Sharkboy." Lance let out a dramatic gasp, splashing a bit of water at the other teen's face, "If anyone is like Sharkboy it's you, since you're both impulsive and all, I'm more like the Ice Princess." Keith scoffed playfully, "Sharkboy is better than the Ice Princess any day, you're more like that light bulb weirdo." Lance let out an offended over dramatic gasp, splashing more water at Keith, who simply laughed and did the same. This continued as it evolved into a splashing war, both of them laughing as they blindly attempted to splash the other. The battle eventually died down as they decided to have a swimming race, one which Lance had won, which wasn't much of a surprise. After few more races and jumping from rocks later, they had gotten pretty exhausted, and swam up on a rock and sat atop it. "How long have we been out here?" Keith asked, leaning against the rock behind him. "Uh, probably the whole day, and I'm guessing by what looks like a sunset it's most likely evening by now." Lance explained, looking up at the Orange and pink fading sky, the white sun settling slowly over the lake horizon, making the water illuminate a mix of pastel pink and blues. "Wow…" Keith breathed, eyes widening at the view, "It's so beautiful…" Keith stared for a moment, almost getting lost in the moment, until he heard quiet sniffles from beside him. He looked over towards Lance who's eyes appeared to be a little red and puffy, Lance looked back at him and forced a chuckle, "Oh, I'm sorry, I just, um, the water got in my eyes and," he sniffed and wiped his tears. "You miss Earth don't you?" Keith asked softly, pulling his knees up to his chest and resting his elbows on then. "Uh yeah, it's just…" Lance wiped at his nose and hug himself, "Nevermind, it's… you wouldn't understand…" "Not if you don't tell me about it," Keith protested. "We're a team Lance, you have to tell us-" "What a minute what's that?" Lance cut him off, leaning down from the rock to look at something in the water. He inched further down. "What do you mean wait a minute- don't change the subject," suddenly Lance stood up and dove into the lake headfirst. "Lance!" Keith shouted, leaning down on the rock, as if Lance could hear him, "Get back here! We were having a bonding moment!" Suddenly Lance popped back up, making Keith jump back in surprise on the rock. The tanned teen chuckled as he hopped back onto the rock, holding what looked like a black lily with white leaves. "Check out what I found." "It's nice but it's no excuse for you to leave in the middle of our conversation, you jerk," he gently shoved at Lance's shoulder. Only making him chuckle more as he crawled further up to place the lily atop his head. "I now crown thee Prince Keith," the teen spoke dramatically, as Keith rolled his eyes and gave a small smile. "Of the edge lords." There was a loud shriek followed by a splash as Lance was shoved back into the water. There was a long silence before laughter filled the air as it quieted back down again, and the two stayed there in silent appreciation of the sunset for a few more moments. "Race you back to the Castle?" "You're on."
