Feast your eyes upon your Voltron Legendary Defender faves striking some truly legendary moves this weekend at SDCC!
i saw a loose confirmation that the writers have said that because the story is set in the future, they don't have any specific label in mind for shiro. so bi shiro is valid!
i have a friend who asked mitch and tim that at their signing and that is what they said to us. people can hc shiro as any orientation as long as he stays a mlm like he is canonically.
Had to be done. I love these goobers. Interview the screen shot is from can be viewed here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqdq-OsSBPM
Boy look at that body
So now that I’ve had time to recover from travel and also process everything with a clear head, here is my official stance on Shiro’s sexuality.
I believe that Shiro’s sexuality can be anything you want so long as he remains a MLM. The EPs have gone on record in this interview (with transcript here) saying that they don’t define his sexuality in any way and want the fans to be able to interpret for themselves and find representation in any way they like. I know that they have also gone on record saying that Shiro is a gay man in this interview. This really gives us three options: 1) gay was used as an umbrella term for not-straight identities, which is very common; 2) they changed their minds and wanted to affirm that Shiro is in fact gay, in that he is exclusively attracted to men; 3) they don’t remember what they said and are just inconsistent. The latter two are possible, but given their previous statement and documented interactions that fans (including myself, as I was there at SDCC in person and also present at at least one occasion in which a fan has asked about Shiro’s sexuality) have had with Mitch and Tim that share that sentiment, I am inclined to believe option #1 as the most viable interpretation of the EPs’ thoughts on the matter.
I have long headcanoned Shiro to be bisexual, and I will continue to do so. I will also continue to ship Shallura along with Shadam/Adashi and my other Shiro ship Uliro. Shipping Shiro with a woman does not invalidate the fact that he is canonically MLM nor does it erase Shiro’s canon past relationship with Adam and the impact that had on his life. I believe that I can ship Shallura while respecting the enormous significance of Shiro’s reveal with regards to the LGBTQ+ community and media representation.
This is my stance, and I’m sticking with it. If - for whatever reason - you need to unfollow or even block me, please feel free to do so without guilt. You do what you have to do to curate your Tumblr experience and be happy and healthy. I understand that people may have different opinions and headcanons, and that is perfectly valid. All I ask is for understanding as I continue to live my life, ship in peace, and love and respect every part of my son.
Why hold on to false hope and everyone is basically dragging the ship so what's the point
because i like it? lol. my love for shallura is not dependent on endgame. i dont give a fuck if people are dragging the ship because i dont care what they think. i know what i like, and i like the relationship that shiro and allura have that is based on mutual respect and admiration as co-leaders and the parallels they have of healing and not being defined by what the galra did to them. that’s the beauty of fandom, you can do what you like and play in the sandbox, and whether people like it or not i’m shipping shallura forever.
also, me shipping shallura does not take away from shadam or what that means in terms of lgbt representation in the media and the importance of shiro’s confirmation as a not straight male (in a kid’s cartoon or otherwise). we can have both? i can ship both? they can co-exist? and they will.
My loves are ready! <3 Charms made by the amazing @andreayewon
