Petshop of Horrors Volume 1, Chapter 1: DREAM (By the way, I’ll be referring to the fan translations by Ruthless Nights Scans. ) Okay, this is the first page.

When I was a child and terrified of everything, I was at my friend’s house and her step-dad put on a movie called “Gremlins”. I thought the featured creature was pretty dang cute and this was gonna be some charming alien creature movie like E.T. Boy. I was wrong. So anyway, later as a young teen who was curiously delving into those sorts of things that used to give me nightmares for months, this was fucking hilarious for me to read.

The Tokyopop translation says: “Don’t take it into the light... Don’t expose it to water... And no feeding it after midnight... right?” Which English speakers might recognize more closely as exactly the rules for the Mogwai in “Gremlins”. Oh my god, I just went to watch some clips from the movie and realized the old man who sells Gizmo also has bi-colored eyes. :’) Lord. I am most positive Matsuri Akino watched that movie and the inspiration birthed this manga.
