there's........so much to unpack in that thread but she also doesn't seem to realize that like....condoms can break? they're not perfectly fool proof and that's not someone's "fault" like literally nothing about her thread is helpful to anyone
Exactly! Like, I don't fucking care about the context, abortion should be a right even if you took exactly zero precautions, but the fact of the matter is you could be on birth control, use a condom correctly (and a lot of ppl DON'T actually use condoms correctly), AND pull out and still somehow mysteriously end up with a pregnancy. There's no one to "blame" there and yet abortion is just as necessary a discussion if the pregnancy isn't wanted. I hate dialogues that talk about unwanted pregnancy as if it's just dumb people getting in a bad situation. Like, no, it's so much more complex than that but none of those factors matter if you aren't using the conversation to promote actually viable ways to prevent pregnancy--with an honest tone about how effective they are--and to remind people that abortion is always an option that doesn’t mean you are shameful, dumb, or “at fault.” Proper sex ed is about healthy attitudes and like... actual facts.
Not shifting blame or passing the buck.
Telling men pregnancy is their fault doesn’t help secure abortion as a right or like... make people treat pregnant people better. Not even getting into how it steamrolls over trans people and other nuances.
