Rennie lost her parents without having a chance to see them, while Jason watched as his mother was decapitated. Leading to Rennie being adopted by her uncle. Jason had no other family to turn to; especially since the world thought him dead anyway.
The way that Rennie was able to continue living a regular life post-almost drowning. The way that, if Jason was saved, he could've grown to be quiet and polite like Rennie.
