So I'm a good portion of the way through WoT for the first time and have loved it. But I'm struggling to find the effort to push through to the end. All I want to know is this: Is Verin Mathwin up to Something ™? She has some sort of shady or ambiguous agenda for so long throughout the story and I would love to know (just yes or no) if there is a satisfying revalation or conclusion to her efforts.

You must be at what the fandom commonly refers to as the Slog. It's generally up to personal opinion on where the Slog starts, but a good portion of the fandom says it lasts from A Crown of Swords - Crossroads of Twilight. Personally I only had difficulty getting through Crossroads of Twilight. I would suggest keeping at it! Switching to the audiobooks during the Slog may help.

Onto your Verin question! The answer is absolutely. Her character arc definitely has a satisfying conclusion. I can't reveal much more than that due to spoilers, but as RJ himself used to say: Read And Find Out.

Any advice on where to even begin with the "expanded universe" (unofficial?) Dalek material? There are so many stories/comics/audios and it's wildly confusing

Oh, god, believe me, even I’m still only scraping the surface on a fair few of those mediums. As for the Daleks themselves, it helps that you’ve got a specific focus on what you want to look for. The amount of Dalek tie-in material limits the scope a lot.

On audio, the Daleks have a few miniseries if you’re particularly interested in them. Both I, Davros and Dalek Empire are pretty standalone and accessible. Neither is my personal favorite, but they’re well regarded by a lot of fans and certainly aren’t lacking in Dalek content.

Most main range Dalek audios are reasonably standalone. Exceptions would be

The Time of the Daleks, Terror Firma, Brotherhood of the Daleks, and Patient Zero, all of which are vitally part of Charley Pollard’s arc, which most EU fans can give you a run-down on

Daleks Among Us, which is inextricably part of Elizabeth Klein’s storyline and also pretty terrible

They also pop up in a couple other ranges. Dark Eyes, War Doctor. Eighth Doctor Time War, and War Master are all reasonable standalone, though Dark Eyes gets mired in more continuity as it goes from a number of storylines. Gallifrey and Bernice Summerfield’s uses of the Daleks are less accessible, though you could easily jump in for the first New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield box set for some of the best Dalek content there is without worrying about continuity. The Fourth Doctor Adventures have fairly standalone Dalek stuff, though the stories are nothing special. The Eighth Doctor Adventures open with the accessible Blood of the Daleks, though I wouldn’t recommend going for Lucie Miller/To the Death without hearing all the range and An Earthly Child.

In terms of books, I know very little of War of the Daleks and Legacy of the Daleks beyond the fact that they are widely hated. I would highly recommend Prisoner of the Daleks, which is an excellent standalone read. I didn’t like The Dalek Generation, but some do.

But there’s so much beyond that, too. I know nothing, for example, of the TV comics. But I hope this information on what I do know helps.

12. Do you have a preferred mount/speeder? Is there one you want, but don’t own yet?

i love the meirm frog speeders. they are cute as shit and their beepbeeps kill me dead. plus they are available in a wide range of colours which means that there is almost certainly ones for all of my OCs who would use cute as shit speeders. accessorising is important Okay

i collected tauntauns on aemilia for a while, until i realised that there were several i would never get (super old cartel packs, one stuck behind a super old cartel rep, etc) and gave up.

my preferred mount when levelling is the uh one you get from referrals, i can’t remember the name off the top of my head but it’s not adaptive - it always goes at max speed (or what used to be max speed) no matter what your speeder piloting level. good for pref scrubs like me who get speeder piloting boosts at higher levels than subs :P

13. Which planet’s aesthetics/atmosphere do you enjoy the most? 

i love the desert worlds. tatooine, hoth, darvannis (in the op more than the kotfe planet). i just love exploring vast wild unknowns. hoth is a beautiful world, and its soundtrack is really fitting.

i also love makeb. the architecture and art style is gorgeous. i’d love a makeb-style stronghold, though not necessarily an SH on makeb. cause, you know. groundquakes and all.

16. Do you have a favorite Flashpoint or operation? A least favorite?

i already answered this but i wanna give a shoutout to my second fave op, the dread palace. it’s such fun. during dvl last year my guild did an all sent run for shits and giggles (we were all watchman for heals, obv) cause a guildie needed to drag her sent up to 65 (most were at the cap and nim geared at this point, so it was more a carry than anything). it was hilar.

but. i just. the fights are. fun. and the dread masters are always entertaining. and oh, the fic fodder~

21. Which player ship is your favorite?

aesthetically, it has to be the agent ship. i’m a sucker for smooth lines and hi tech shit. however layout wise it has to be the smuggler ship, cause whenever i get lost (and i frequently do), i just have to run around in a big circle until i find whatever it was i was looking for

All of the above is something I’ve wondered about....

Yeah, you’d expect personal cybernetics to be well shielded, for all the obvious reasons.

I just went and centered a story around an extra-effective ion thingy that takes out weapons and powered armor...and the lights...and... anyway, things that you would also expect to be pretty well shielded.

(Then again, ion weapons are weirdly unpopular in Star Wars. Maybe standard ones really aren’t very effective. If the baseline for ion weaponry is “not terribly effective, most things shielded against them” and the baseline for cybernetics implanted in people is “really frickin’ shielded” there might be wiggle room. And retconning could be achieved with a sentence or two... Hmm...)

The “Could-have-been King with his army of Meanwhiles and Never-weres”, you mean? Afraid not. The expanded universe hasn’t really touched on any of that stuff as of yet. From Ten’s description, only the Skaro Degredations have gotten a story to explain them, in the book Engines of War (worth a read).

I would say that The Neverwhen is still the single best audio portrayal of the Time War, though.

When you genuinely try to show non-judgemental kindness to everyone - being called to ever more selflessness by faith - and people automatically throw you in the "fascist" box because of historic evil or present day idiocy/deliberate misinterpretation/opportunistic greed

No problem!  It just seems like common sense to me ... every religion has a less-than-stellar history, and every religion has its bad people.  But that doesn’t mean the religion is bad.  There’s very rarely any grounds for anyone to hate on an entire belief system.  Most people are good and try to do good things!  And honestly?  Some of the kindest, most generous and accepting people I’ve known have been those who act that way because of their faith.

There’s a very pathetic fad going around where it’s popular to hate on mainstream things just because they’re common or famous or popular, so that whatever the corresponding minority is can somehow appear “better.”  But zero percent of the people doing this have the ability to think critically about anything.  It’s a bandwagon, especially on tumblr, and it’s just.  Very.  Sad.
