Jealousy

With the way they’d been acting towards each other, Natalia held little hope in their future together. Four days had given her enough time to truly think everything through, caught between the affections that had one felt so strong and the ease that came with their fighting leaving her stranded in her standing with Ethan. 

However, it didn’t come for a lack of trying on her end waiting for him to answer that call. The woman let out a sigh of relief upon hearing his apology. 

“I don’t think you are, but I appreciate the effort in the apology,” she said. Ethan might’ve broken his hand but she had no doubt he’d found pleasure it breaking it across Steve’s face. “I don’t know what I was trying to do, and it’s no excuse for my behavior lately, but I think I’ve gotten...bored with us.”

       ben had tried his best to keep his life compartimentalized, he always had, even before joining King.sman. during his first mission--the never ending one that had turned him into a recovering addict--he had met a handful of people, one of them being anakin. he was younger than ben and even more reckless and when he was finally pulled out of that fake life, when they brought down that ring anakin was adrift. ben himself struggled for years but he never forgot about ani and he always felt responsible for him, going as far as tracking him down and helping him get clean.

       he wasn’t proud of what he did during that op or all the lies that came after it--lying was easy, facing the shit he had done wasn’t so much. but anakin was clean now, he had gotten a job as a mechanic, he even had his own shop and was doing okay and they met from time to time, to catch up. they were friends or something like that. 

        so when ben left the coffee place and watched anakin drive away, the last thing he expected to hear next to him was ethan. 

          “you followed me here? what the fuck.”

Charles always hated when Ethan had to leave on missions. It drove him mad with worry, but in the time they’d been together... he’d come to trust that his beloved would always come back to him, even if he was in bad shape. Ethan said he’d never leave him and he kept his word.

A bridge between their minds kept him alert to if anything horrendous happened to Ethan, or if he died. Ethan must have had a high threshold for pain, because it wasn’t till things must have gotten unbearable for Ethan that things happened. Charles awoke screaming, feeling the pain Ethan felt. The professor fell from his bed, cursing his useless legs. Luckily Logan was not far away.

With the aid of Cererbro he found Ethan. What transpired after would be something that haunted Charles for the rest of his life... but they hurt Ethan. He killed them. All of them. All to get to Ethan. It was so easy, human minds were so fragile, so easy to convince to simply shut down. He didn’t care, he wasn’t losing Ethan. 

So when he found him he immediately dropped to his knees in front of his beloved, cradling his face. “I’m here... I’m here darling...” he breathes out, pulling the other close and into himself. Logan’s cautious footsteps soon follow and he looks at Charles in horror. “Chuck... what have you do--” Charles cuts him off with a hiss. “Quiet.... we’re... we’re not going to speak of this.” he says as he runs his fingers through Ethan’s hair. “Please help me get him back to the blackbird...”

With Logan’s help, they’re loaded up and Hank is already checking him over. He sat nearby, holding onto Ethan’s hand.

Personal

She’d never understand how she’d ended up with Ethan. Listening to him put aside his own work for setting up the nursery might have been the tipping point for the woman who already felt undeserving towards her significant other, and caused her to turn her body so her cheek rested on his chest and didn’t say anything for a long time. 

He was too good to her. After everything she’d suffered in her life, she’d met him and fell in love so quickly it was almost overwhelming. Now they were expecting and she still felt the same flutter inside her when he spoke in an affectionate reminder of her feelings for him. 

“...we don’t need to rush,” she whispered. “Everything will work out. It always has.”

Another

Natalia dried off and slid herself into the same shirt of Ethan’s she’d worn for almost two weeks, combed through wet hair, and shut off the bathroom light -- painfully normal for what she’d been doing for their entire relationship as she climbed into bed next to him. 

As if nothing had changed, she leaned over to give him a kiss on the cheek, rolled facing opposite of him, and went to sleep, figuring that nothing truly was different between them. Natalia was still assured of her feelings towards him and really didn’t care what he did with his career. Considering what she’d done, what right did she have to scold him?
