A Stuart man is hoping online voting for “Local Heroes” will help him win a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and become more independent. Jared Weiland, 29, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 2003 at the age of 18. He will be featured in the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) Local Hero contest, which will award four wheelchair accessible vehicles, customized to fit the needs of the winners. The contest is part of National Mobility Awareness Month (NMAM) each May. The theme “Life Moving Forward” aims to recognize the perseverance of those living with physical challenges and increase awareness of solutions to increase independence, according to Tammy Weiland, Jared’s mother.

Jared lives in my hometown and he is trying to win a wheelchair accessible van. He definitely deserves it, so if you guys could help him out by voting for him I know he would appreciate it.
