The Dance (A Winchester Valentine’s Day Special)
Sam and Dean get mistaken as a couple a lot, but there was this one time it didn’t have anything to do with a case. A local steak house had just opened and they were offering 2 for 1 dinners to all couples that came out for Valentine’s Day.
Dean talked Sam into it, how bad could it be? So maybe they have to look the part a bit by gazing into each other’s eyes from time to time and laugh at each other’s jokes. Easy peasy, sounds like a normal night out.
They dressed up nicely, and Dean kept his arm around Sam’s waist as the hostess sat them by some artificial trees wrapped in red and white Christmas lights for that Valentine’s ambiance.
When the server brought them their menus, she handed them a card and asked them to vote for who they thought the cutest couple in the restaurant was. The winners would receive a special prize at 9:00 pm. Dean couldn’t resist writing “Those big gorgeous dudes at table 19″ meaning them of course. Sam laughed “You’re such a dork sometimes” “What?” Dean answered, “We might win a FREE dinner for 2!”
The brothers enjoyed surf and turf with baked potatoes and a few beers and at 9:00 as promised, the restaurant manager announced the winners. “Tonights Cutest Couple award goes tooooo…. TABLE 19!!” The boys were actually shocked as they stood up to a round of applause. Their server spoke to the manager “Tell them what they’ve won!” the manager read from the card in his hand “A romantic weekend getaway to Mt Harmony Couples Retreat!” and before they could even react, Sam and Dean were ushered to the middle of the floor to share a slow dance.
“Oh crap.. this was unexpected,” Sam said as he awkwardly took Dean’s hand and wrapped his other arm around his back.
“It’s fine, just go with it. I’ll even let you lead because you’re taller” Dean chuckled.
The band played their rendition of Bryan Adams’ Heaven and in no time, the brothers found their rhythm. Maybe it was the dimness of the room, or the smooth crooning of an old 80s favorite, or maybe just the comfort of being in each other’s arms, but Dean found himself softly singing along. Sam closed his eyes and listened. For some reason, every lyric seemed fitting.
It wasn’t planned, they’ve never laid it on this thick before, but as the song neared the end, they found their lips together. Neither resisted nor tried to pull away, they only stopped when the song was finished and another round of applause rose from their audience. Smiling and mildly embarrassed, Sam and Dean walked back to the table and sat down.
“Dean, what was that?” Sam asked with his eyes wide
“I don’t know, but it was nice… wasn’t it?” Dean asked
“Yeah” Sam gave a dimpled grin “Think we could fake it through that weekend getaway?”
“I think we could try really hard.” Dean leaned across the table and kissed Sam again.
