Student Cap

Acturian has an academy cap now. We will only accept 1500 students we are currently at 1016 applications so hurry to make it! After this first go around we will take 500 students during each break. Click here for the op.

The other side of the coin. MIGW - PAX 2017

today has been a very new experience for me and hopefully a small glimpse into my future. walking into PAX not as a consumer, but as someone trying to promote a game (Shadowverse), lead to an entirely different experience that gave me a new perspective on the community of gaming.  https://shadowverse.com/

So I was volunteering for Cygames ‘Shadowverse’ booth as a general hand, so handing out flyers, teaching people the rules of the game, playing it with people, monitoring tournaments the whole bit. It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun, getting to know the community and see people really passionate and eager to play was really awesome and infectious.     https://shadowverse.com/

However being on the other side of the coin wasn't without its downsides. watching as people would walk straight past because they didn't like the art syle or wasn't being made by a AAA studio was heartbreaking. I didn’t work on the game but over the last week or so of playing it to make sure i knew it well enough to explain it to people who were new to it at PAX, I really started to getting an attachment to it and could see how much work and love went into making it as fun and appealing as possible. I'm not usually a fan of the turn based card game genre but this one really grabbed me and opened my eyes to how just small things like making sure there is always plenty of player feedback with particles and effects make the experience so much more enjoyable. This may be a contributing factor as to why i never really gave the genre the second chance it deserved.

I could see people flocking to all of these big AAA game booths and leaving the indie games that are doing some amazing things in innovation to try and get noticed with the bigger studios. now don't get me wrong I love the big name companies as much as anyone else but if you get the chance go to the Indie booths, its where the magic is at.

Things you can do to help your local homeless shelter

I know from personal (current :( ) experience that things get rough in winter, so here's a list of things you can do to help out!

Donate.

-Gently used childrens' clothing and toys. There are a lot of small children here and many of them don't have toys or clothes! Toys are the holy grail of less screaming children.

-Plus size clothing. No one there is going to be a size 00 like society wants us to be. Many of us (including myself) are plus sized individuals and no matter how hard we look, we can never find a well-fitting coat.

-Coats and blankets. My shelter is currently having a blanket crisis- we don't have enough to go around for the winter and we're getting more and more people every day. You can donate any type of blanket or quilt. Coats are also greatly appreciated; as stated above, many of us are plus size and finding a winter coat is very hard (I'm looking at you, Mom.) ALSO HAND WARMERS AND GLOVES!!

-Personal hygiene supplies. Soap, shampoo, womens' personal items, razors, etc.

-Socks and underwear. My shelter just received a large donation of socks and underwear, and we can't thank the donor enough!

-Cough drops, cold medicine, etc. If one person gets sick, all of us do (I'm really hoping for some cold medicine soon)

-Ask the employees what is needed food-wise. We have so much bread, to the point that a lot of it has to sit in store rooms and get moldy. So PLEASE ask what is needed before donating food!

Volunteer

It's not hard to come in and work in the kitchen. We love getting outside help and it's nice to see someone who wants to be here.

Each month the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital hosts a pizza and movie night for its inpatients and their families. Neinstein Personal Injury Lawyers has been a proud supporter of this program since its inception back in 2015. Members of our team regularly volunteer to serve pizza and take part in the fun.

More than 2,000 people have attended the pizza and movie nights in the past three years, including nearly 900 in 2017 alone. Neinstein would like to congratulate Holland Bloorview on the ongoing success of this important program and commend its staff for their hard work and dedication to victims of childhood illnesses and injuries.
