Trick or treat!! If you feel like it, something continuing the "Harry is the only one able to tell the difference between the Weasley twins" ficlets... Have a lovely October dear :)
a continuation of x x
Harry doesn’t really know that it’s anything remarkable until he stays with the Weasleys the summer before his second year.
“Fred, could you pass the potatoes, dear?” Mrs. Weasley asks the twin nearest here, who does it without question.
Harry waits a beat, but when no one says anything, he says, “That’s George.”
Mrs. Weasley blinks, “What was that, Harry dear?”
“That’s George,” Harry repeats. “Not Fred.”
“Oh. Right. Sorry, George,” she says, flushed.
“It’s okay, Mum, don’t worry about it,” he says, but he catches Harry’s eye to wink at him.
Two days later, Mr. Weasley shouts, “George - Fred - no, George, stop that!”
Harry glances at the twin who’s terrorizing Ginny with a garden gnome and says, “That’s Fred. George is trying to make the gnomes kiss.” He pauses, “Unless that’s who you were talking to.”
Mr. Weasley deflates, “Oh, no, you’re sure?”
Harry looks again, even though he doesn’t have to. He is sure. “Yeah.”
The next night he goes to their room, standing awkwardly in the doorway for a moment before blurting, “Does that happen a lot? People not being able to tell you apart?”
The look at each other, then shrug. “Which one am I?” the twin on the left asks.
“Fred,” he answers. “Obviously.”
“Obviously,” George echoes, then ruffles his hair. “Don’t worry about it.”
Harry kind of worries about it. He always makes sure to address the twins by their names in the future, partly so they know that he knows who he’s talking to, and partly so other people can overhear him and not get it wrong.
