Why shouldn't we bash Ron for his behavior throughout the series
Ron as a character is overall how a friend should be.
I know many would disagree with this because of particular instances in the series.
Let's start from the beginning. Being youngest son he always felt short in front of his siblings in terms of talent as well as his parents attention & care towards him. Despite of this he quickly made friends with Harry and eventually Hermione. He noticed how Harry misses the familial presence around him. So he wrote this to his mother and soon Harry become Weasley's unofficially 7th son.
Only self quality Ron was sure about his chess skills. In PS journey to reach the stone utilizes each of trio's capabilities. This boost his confidence a little. But later on he himself felt he was dragging the rest of two.
In CoS there are multiple incident he stood for both of his friends protectively. He also faced his biggest fears for Hermione too.
In PoA lets assume for moment Scabber was normal rat. Then like any pet owner he was protective of his pet. We cannot blame only Ron for his arguments with Hermione. Despite being angry with her he still noticed Hermione irregular time table and her stress. He also helped her in preparing Buckbeak's case. He not only stood for Hermione infront of Snape but also for Harry infront of supposedly mass murderer.
Well in GoF we can not just blame Ron to overlooking burden over Harry. Sometimes as a Teenager our problem seems much bigger than they really are. Even Harry does not act as saint either in such circumstances. As any other best friends they had their fallout for some time. But at the end of first task he understood his place in Harry's life too. Although he had shown his jealousy towards Krum at Yule Ball. But come to think of when your crush is on one of your best friends which is unknown to even yourself. It would definitely not lead to path of Roses.
Even in OotP he stood up with Harry were most of the wizarding world was against their supposed hero.
Many people criticize his relationship with Lavender. But they fail to see how wrong Hermione's reaction was towards her crush and best friends first winning snog. I know she was hurt but would you attack someone based on only one sided known feelings.
Even in DH their fight initiated due to his worry towards his family who he could not contact. It was not for any selfish reason as such.
At Locket Horcrux destruction it was clearly shown how Ron criticize himself harshly against his action even though he don't show this on outside.
I really wanted that Locket Horcrux destruction should happen in front of his family. Where they could actually understand their action throughout the years made Ron compare & criticize himself over unhealthy standards.
Harry is always in one mortal peril situation or another. So he is little self absorbed and moody sometime. Whereas Hermione is academic in nature. Ron often took care of both as mother hen and reach out to them even they were fighting over some issue. He act like glue between two.
Some people blame him for whining .Why can't he whine in front of his friends. We all whine infront of our friends, why should he bashed over this?
In the end I may be showing my favor towards Ron because I love this character. But he was portrayed as a good friend who despite his short comings always try to be there for others whenever they need him. Despite all his flaws he is inherently a person with good heart.
