What is the general attitude towards LGBTQIA people on campus?
I would say that although the community is still somewhat marginalized, Vanderbilt is a very accepting and loving place with a strong support system and tons of programming and resources for LGBTQIA students. We recently had Laverne Cox come speak during National Coming Out Week and all across campus pride flags were displayed on various buildings, including my sorority house and one of the religious organizations that has a building on Greek Row. I think the non-LGBTQIA students are very receptive and most everyone who goes to Vanderbilt finds a place to fit in, be it in a frat or living in McGill (or both).
What do you know about the public policy studies? And on a slightly unrelated notes, why did you choose Vanderbilt (not one of those cheesy tour guide answers please)
Not much at all. Check here and here for more info.
I would say there is at least some truth to cheesy tour guide answers, so I’m sorry if mine has overlap. I like the reaction I get from people who know that it is hard to get into, I like the size, I like the percentage of women who are greek, I like all of the food options, I like the dorm options, I like the majors and the abilities to major and take classes in schools separate from the one you apply to, I like the fact that we’re in the SEC and that football is a thing and most importantly marching band is a part of that thing, i like that it is very walkable and all essential needs can be met within walking distance. I do like the financial aid, but I don’t like how expensive it still is with it. I like the feeling I get when I am on campus.
