Back from watching #GhostbustersAfterlife at my local #VueCinemas (@vue) and really enjoyed it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you're a fan of the original 1984 movie then you might like this too. I think it strikes a good balance between the original movie, hitting some very familiar beats and dropping some cool easter eggs for fans along the way, as well as bringing something new for the modern audience, with it's new cast and location.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With the return of a 'beloved' franchise, there's always a danger of cranking up the nostalgia or fan service too much to the sometimes detrement of the story / plot (see Star Wars: The Force Awakens / Rise Of Skywalker as a case in point - one kind of got away with it, but the other didn't IMO), but here, #Ghostbusters Afterlife does it right, slowly turning the nostalgia dial up as the movie progresses, calling back to the original (the other movies aren't hinted at all), but done in a way I didn't feel overshadowed the goings on in the new movie too much and actually feeling part of the ongoing plot. The opening sequence, in how it bridged the two films, worked really well, but it's only towards the end does the sense of sentimentality of the original really come to a full boil, but not so much that it was dripping in schmaltz or nostalgia.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The cast is pretty good, bringing a good balance of humour and tension, the story zips along at a good pace, if feeling a bit too familiar at times, and the effects were pretty good too.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #JasonReitman brings the Ghostbusters legacy up to date with a well crafted spiritual successor to his father's original.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Two end credit scenes, one mid and one right at the end. Both worth sticking around for for fans of the original.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #InstaMovieReview (at Vue Cinema Leamington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWlqM9chPhK/?utm_medium=tumblr
