Contrary to what everyone would've expected, Pete presented himself to South Park High's annual spring dance. The dance had a name, but Pete couldn't be bothered to remember what it was. Probably something stupid, yeah. Something to sell the idea that it was more than what it really was. A lame, half-assed gathering of high school students with poor taste. Within hours, the dance will be deserted and everyone would be cramping into their parents cars with the intend to meet in the abandoned barn a mile outside of town. But for the time being, Pete's classmates seemed to be enjoying themselves. cool then, i guess.
Pete emptily watched his rippling reflection in the red solo cup. Each song seemed to drone on, and his eyebrows occasionally twitched with disdain. these songs are unbelievable.
“thank you, next, next, thank u, next, next, thank u, next, next, i'm so fuckin'--”
The red fabric that lined his jacket glistened in the scarce light as he reached for his pocket. Something to help him loosen up. Every time someone looked at him, he felt himself wind tighter and tighter. When Tweek Tweak and Wendy Testaburger's eyes lingered on him a little too long, Pete was caught mid sip and had half a mind to ask them what's up and if they ain't ever seen a bitch before. But when Pete returned their gaze, they casually looked away. In retrospect, they might have been staring because they saw Pete pouring the contents of a flask into his punch. ugh, what a mess.
The goth was unsure what other worldly force had brought him here. Or rather, what brought them here. From across the dance floor, Pete locked his eyes on Henrietta. She was talking with a girl that sat behind Pete in his calculus class. She was sweet girl, and not a pain to be around. Pete couldn't imagine what Henrietta would be talking about with her. As Henri's mouth moved, it seemed to matched the lyrics that blared over the speakers. The chuckled at the thought. Henrietta's dress swished around as she shifted from one foot to another. i told you not to wear the heels.
It took them a long time to get that dress made. Neither of them could find a site that had a dress in Henrietta's size. Though she seemed to shrug it off, both Pete and Michael knew that it made her feel bad. It was an empire waist, floor length dress. Black, of course. But she wore a red pendant and red cat-eye nails. Admittedly, they looked stunning side by side.
Pete knew that eventually, Henrietta would gravitate back to him, but for now, he stood aimlessly at the punch table and waited until she did. i don’t want to be here alone.
The next song that started to play over the speakers made Pete glance at the speakers, towards the DJ and back again. Metro Station..? Talk about a blast from the past.
