The power of vulnerability ✨ — I've learned, over and over and over again, that transparency, openness, and allowing people in is one of the greatest gifts. This has, fortunately, come naturally to me since I was little. I was always over-sharing, always telling people my life story, and always writing my literal heart onto the page.⁣ ⁣ I'm thankful to have built a career from this passion. I never imagined that starting my podcast @thisnakedvoice (give it a follow) would allow me to focus on creating in the visual realm almost as intensely as the aural realm, but I’m really glad it has. I mean, look at this badass and beautiful photo we made of @abeckerblack ! # Alexandra Becker-Black is an absurdly talented watercolor artist in Portland, OR. She also works in other mediums such as charcoal - this is one of her drawings next to her, here. # In episode 8 of This Naked Voice, Alex and I talk about Death and the prominent role it has played as a theme in her work and life the last many years, and even more so since the recent passing of her father in late 2019. # In diving into the realm of Death, with all the pain, fear and grief that comes along with it, we find there is much richness, magic and beauty waiting to be uncovered. # I also bring up how much the topic of Death is avoided in our culture, and invite us to consider why that might be. Miracles are not to be trusted. Trust in yourself instead. # Limiting beliefs don't just go away once we start experiencing "success". # Tara Mangini is one half of the supremely talented and sought out home design duo known as @jerseyicecreamco  # For years, she and her partner, Percy Bright would move into old homes and hotels for months at a time, remaking and remodeling them in their signature style.  They have been featured in the @nytimes, @gq, @archdigest, @elleusa, and countless design blogs such as @remodelista, @apartmenttherapy, and @designsponge.

I have been fortunate to know Tara since our days at @udelaware, where we were close because of our time together in our a cappella group, The Deltones.

In this episode, Tara shares about how she never really saw "success" coming, and how she still battles limiting beliefs even after what most would consider a pretty damn successful early career.

I also challenge Tara in her story about how her life has unfolded thus far, asking her to look beyond giving external events all the credit, seeing if she can take responsibility and claim the truth about herself for how well her professional creative career has turned out so far.

"We must allow ourselves to be seen."⠀ ⠀ Last week I recorded a #VulnerABILITYPodcast episode with @eliyahu_nash, founder of @micdrop_us about the idea of being vulnerable and truly 'seen' in order to reduce shame. [Release date: end of August — stay tuned! 🎤] This idea really hits home for me. ⠀ ⠀ In my opinion, EVERYTHING IN LIFE is about being seen.⠀ ⠀ When we allow ourselves to be seen in our work, we challenge ourselves to step into the next level. When we let ourselves be seen in our passions, we pursue what's really on our hearts and minds (even when it's hard or painful). And when we allow ourselves to be seen in love, we find ones who truly value us, and we allow ourselves to love and be loved without restriction.⠀ ⠀ In love, being 'seen' is about someone looking at you and seeing you for who you are. They notice your flaws, your imperfections. They see you when you're angry or haven't eaten since breakfast. They the the way you handle decisions (sometimes terribly) and how you lose your temper, get stressed, forget or get lost along the way.⠀ ⠀ But they look at you and they love you despite of all that.⠀ ⠀ They look at you and see how you're forever changing, forever growing. They understand the complications of your past, the mistakes that have made you who you are, and the ways that you've been broken that have shaped how you think.⠀ ⠀ They see the uniqueness, the quirks, the true beauty of being YOU — not trying to be perfect, or flawless, or anything other than who you are. And that's why they love you.⠀ ⠀ And if love is something you're stressing over, something you think you'll never find or be worthy of, I want you to know that when you let your guard down, when you stop chasing the wrong things and give the right things time to fall into place, and when you realize that you are beautiful when you are simply you — messy, raw, and real — that's when you give yourself space to become and attract the love you deserve.⠀ ⠀ So please, allow yourself to be seen.⠀ Allow yourself to be loved (by yourself and others).⠀ And trust that the right people (in all forms of love) will come to you.⠀ ⠀ 📷: @denisekophoto https://www.instagram.com/p/B1T__yNlLh8/?igshid=g2kinrbfskjg
