" look at me, hey… it's okay. you're safe now. "
for a moment, scott is stuck in this half-asleep state where his surroundings aren't real, or maybe they are—he isn't sure—and the threat he's fighting against is a nightmare that had just seemed a little too real. his eyes suddenly snap open and he lunges forward from the bed, his breathing ragged; it vaguely reminds him of the asthma attacks he used to have. he's breathless trying to find air as his claws catch yu-ri's wrist, an instinct meant only to keep himself safe from the perceived threat. it takes scott a moment to realize there isn't one. it really was just a nightmare. "yuri?" he asks, voice rough and groggy, but there's an undertone of noticeable relief that pours from his voice and then his body. a second later he realizes his claws against her skin and hastily pulls them away—careful not to hurt her any more than he already has. in the back of his mind, scott remembers the feeling of raking his claws over the skin of her wrist when she had stabbed her own claws into him so many years ago; this was nothing like that. "i'm sorry, i didn't—" scott starts, instinctively shrinking away from her so he couldn't hurt her anymore (however irrational, because this fox is resilient—it would take so much more to actually cause her real harm), "are you okay?"
