Not me trying to revive The Secret Saturdays fandom in 2025 🥲🦎✨
👻 Paranormal Activities Jam👻
Another fun magma jam hosted by @weeklymagmas, and I hit a new record of 7 drawings this time.
First, Leo and Mikey dressed as Fred and Shaggy respectively because you can’t have a paranormal activity jam without doing at least one Scooby Doo parody. Even if the ghost in question is V. V. Argost from The Secret Saturdays.
Next is a simple but angsty drawing of Leopatra as a ghost sitting on top of his sarcophagus. This is where I end up grabbing the angst ball for this week’s jam.
We finally get some lore and ideas on my new and updated Egyptian Turtles AU with a little help from the chat. Seriously, we went nuts with the Egyptian turtles.
So what happens in this AU is that all four turtle princes die really young and they come back to life years later by April who in this AU is an aspiring archaeologist… and she pretty much adopts them as her little brothers. How they end up dying young is that Leopatra made the mistake of trusting and falling in love with someone named Usagi with all his heart, and that costed him his life, with his brothers dying shortly afterwards. Apparently Usagi is somehow connected to the ancient Krang War that took place even before the Hamato dynasty was formed and was responsible for the downfall of a previous dynasty. Worst part is that Leopatra, Donapatra, Raphesses and Mikankhamun are the last members of the royal Hamato family, and their untimely deaths thanks to Usagi has put an end to the Hamato dynasty for good.
Even though his brothers keep telling him that it’s not his fault, Leopatra can’t help but blame himself for ending the family line. At least Usagi got punished by not being allowed to enter the Afterlife due to being hit with an immortality curse, and forever being remembered as the rabbit who murdered Leopatra and betrayed Egypt to the Krang.
Don’t mind ghost Leo hovering beside ghost Leopatra. He’s not part of the AU, but he’s still bitter about getting himself killed by his own stupidity.
A little something fun to balance out the angst with an arm wrestling match between Raph and Fisk, with Mikey and Zak cheering. No, I don’t consider the Ben 10 x Secret Saturdays crossover canon in my eyes. This is my first time drawing Fisk so he does look off.
Really the most fun and productive jam I participated in so far. I await for more exciting magma jams in 2026 👍
can we appreciate for a moment that the show Secret Saturdays essentially made Bigfoot the main big bad, and far from being a joke character he's treated as a legitimately creepy and terrifying foe who is a realistic threat to the life and freedom every single human on earth?
I mean, just LOOK at this guy.
like this is what I was talking about when I was saying cartoon network had the most iconic villains between 2000 and 2015. Classic-era Vilgax, V.V. Argost, Van Kleiss, Slade. They all have their own "aura" that makes them stand out against the crowd as distinctly sinister. Even Aku, who ABSOLUTELY IS a joke villain despite being the main villain of samurai jack, feels unstoppable any time Jack isn't in the room.
I think part of it is that they aren't merely "evil", they are MONSTROUS, and have a classic cinematic flair to them. I've heard Classic-era Vilgax referred to as a cross between darth vader and an eldritch horror. V.V. Argost is an actual monster inspired by classic old horror films, both in and out of universe. Van Kleiss, while appearing human, is a warped, psychologically inhuman sociopath consumed with the desire for power and is fully willing to torture and murder his own allies (on screen) for his own benefit. And Slade... we'll just say that his behavior really captures the predatory nature of his appearance the original Judas Contract comic arc uncomfortably well. They're all unapologetically evil, and they revel in it, which makes them REALLY fun to watch.
Quick sketch
