Jill had meant for her question to be open to interpretation, just to see how the Captain would react. Ever since their contentious conversation during the stakeout Jill had been paying close attention to everything Wesker did or said. On the surface she had been obedient and filed the report stating that nothing usual was discovered, just like her boss had wanted. But she was still suspicious, and was convinced that he was hiding something.
She assumed that her shift in attention would not go unnoticed and sure enough over the next few days she felt his gaze linger on her more often. She couldn't fathom it was anything beyond suspicion of his own, but Jill did wonder if pretending it had particular affect on her might get him to lower his guard. Growing up as a criminal certainly had it's advantages. Jill learned very early on that people were quick to dismiss a woman who appeared frazzled or anxious, especially if they assumed it had to do with anything romantic. One of the easiest ways to get away with shady activity was to make people assume that you either belonged exactly where you were, or that you couldn't possibly cause them harm.
Years of practice slid into place and she added a slight waver to her voice as she said, "I am a little distracted, you've been paying a lot more attention to me lately." She pretended to be flustered by the admission. She turned her thoughts briefly to someone else and was rewarded with a slight blush tinging her cheeks.
"When you look at me like it's like you're trying to solve a puzzle," she said shyly. She didn't honestly think this plan of hers would work, Wesker hadn't really ever given any inclination he was interested in people like that. But it was easy enough to try, and if he didn't bite she could probably play it off as a girlish whim.
