Once again on the picturesque island Tholen, 🇳🇱 The Netherlands. I took this photograph on top of one of the many typical inner dikes or levees our country is so famous for. Most land in this region is gained from the North Sea, which originally was at the end of the tree tunnel you see here. The land on our island is about 0-2 meters under Sea Level 🐟🐟🐟, so these levees are to be maintained well... In February 1953 this island, as well as many more in the province, was almost completely flooded an many people drowned. The North sea is now somewhat under control, by the Dutch Delta Works, and the water just 200 meters from here is now called the Oosterschelde, a controlled inner sea in the province of Zeeland. . This beautiful spot is in the 60 Ha (148 acres) nature development area called 'Stinkgat' or Stinking hole, a former (probably very smelly 🤔) tidal creek now closed off from the sea. It is beautiful to hike there and a good place to spot or shoot all kinds of birds. But only with your camera or binoculars of course! 📷😄👍🏼 . #tholen #vvvzeeland #pzcfoto #zeeland #ig_discover_holland #thisisholland #super_holland #ig_netherlands #ig_holland #lovezeeland #nikonnl @natgeotravel (bij Oud-Vossemeer)
