Vans Warped Tour officially kicked off today! The UMusicians Team has come together to create a playlist and be sure to check out some of these artists as you attend Warped Tour this Summer!
“Godspeed”- Anberlin
Anberlin kicked off 2014 but letting us know that they’ll be releasing their final record and embarking one last tour before they disband. They stated “We don’t want to fade out. We want to end with hugs and celebrate the life that was Anberlin and not be bummed about us ending.” And that last US tour features a couple dates on this years Warped Tour. Check out their song Godspeed, which is one of my favourite songs ever! So much energy throughout the whole song and there’s a killer guitar solo. If you have a chance, check out Anberlin on their final run before they say goodbye.

“Knights of the Round”- A Skylit Drive
One of my all-time favorite bands, A Skylit Drive, will probably rip open the pit at Warped Tour. I saw them live back in 2011, and I was surely NOT disappointed. They have the most amazing attitude and have a great amount of energy. They have been in the smaller stages at Warped so hopefully this time around they can get into the main stage and create chaos. You should totally check them out if you like bands that can keep a similar sound throughout the years while also evolving. The have also released a new album this year called Rise. Check out the song “Knights of the Round” form their first full length album Wires…And The Concept of Breathing.

“I Have A Problem”- Beartooth
A band that has a really powerful presence on stage is Beartooth. Lead vocalist Caleb Shomo can be considered the youngest veteran of his music genre. Starting his roots in the band Attack Attack! , he did instruments, vocals and produced while at the same time having a side EDM project called CLASS. In 2012 the formation of Beartooth began as a fun thing but turned into something pretty great. The band has done supporting tours but it will be their first time together as a band at Warped. Check out the song “I Have a Problem” from their first EP Sick.

“Smoke and Mirrors” -The Color Morale
“Someday someone somewhere will need you” - It’s about time The Color Morale played Warped Tour. If you’re looking for a band with passion for music as well as their fans – look no further. While their albums are full of hits, “Smoke and Mirrors” off of their most recent album Know Hope is my personal favourite. This song captures the essence of the band and their dedication to their fans. I’ve always been a fan of positive music, and The Color Morale is one of the most positive bands around right now. Make sure to check out their albums and catch their set at your Warped Tour stop!

“Cool Kids”- Echosmith
A featured single from their album, Talking Dreams, this song is definitely going to make you a fan of this band. The song would be best categorized as chilled out synth-pop. It’s the type of song that someone would catch you listening to as you danced and singed to while in your car. The best part about this song makes a connection with its listeners with the idea of wanting to be like the “Cool group” because they seem to have everything together. The theme of laid back synth-pop and relatable lyrics is found throughout their album, and definitely a reason to check them out while they are on the Van’s Warped Tour.

“Speak To Me”- I The Mighty
This band is one of my favorites and is a hometown band for me. Hailing from the East Bay were bands like The Story So Far and Set Your Goals also come from, I The Mighty is a really great Alternative Rock band with high energy and catchy songs. Everyone should check them out on their leg of the tour.

“Princeton Avenue” -Issues
Issues is once again on Warped Tour this summer, and I expect their performance to be just as memorable as the last time I saw them. As the opening act for Bring Me the Horizon and Of Mice & Men on the American Dream Tour, Issues really knew how to get the crowd excited. At first, people were a little bored, but by the end everyone was jumping and chanting along with the band. I think that “Princeton Ave”, on their EP Black Diamonds, will be the song that the crowd is the most excited in. Not only is it a popular song, but the meaning behind it is powerful and you can recognize emotion in Tyler Carter’s voice. “

“Love and Drugs” -The Maine
The Maine are no strangers to Warped Tour. Ever since they first gained popularity with their pop-punk EP ‘Cant Stop, Wont Stop’ I’ve had the pleasure of watching them grow and mature into the band they are today. This song is from their latest album Forever Halloween and is an absolutely great one live. I wish I lived in America to see them play Warped Tour USA, check out their set for me!

“Jamie All Over”- Mayday Parade
Warped veterans Mayday Parade are no stranger to the stage and definitely know how to pump up the crowd regardless of weather. With their most recent album Monsters In The Closet never have been played at Warped Tour before, new crowd favorites from the album as well as their old songs will definitely bring them a huge following. If you’ve never heard of the band before or haven’t seen a reason to listen to their music songs you would probably want to listen to before your Warped date are “Jamie All Over”, “Stay”, “Ghosts”, “Sorry Not Sorry”, “Oh Well, Oh Well”, “Angels” and “Hold Onto Me”

“Jukebox” -The Summer Set
Arizona’s, The Summer Set will be returning to Warped Tour again this Summer, but this time on MAINSTAGE. Can you tell I’m excited,?? The band released their fourth album Legendary via Fearless Records last April. The pop centred album features ballads, anthem songs and songs you can belt out at the top of your lungs. “Life goes on, we got all night. If you got rock and roll, you’re gonna be alright…” from Jukebox, track #2 on the band’s recent release will have you singing along. Half Moon Kids, “Be brave, be curious, be legendary” and get ready to see The Summer Set give engaging, high energy performances all Summer long!

“Same Blood Rush with A New Touch” -Cute Is What We Aim For
Cute Is What We Aim For is an emo-punk band hailing from Buffalo, NY. Born in 2005, the band signed to Fueled By Ramen early on, releasing two records and having a successful run until breaking up in 2009. And by breaking up I mean all of the band members left besides Shaant, who continued making music under the name and performing solo shows.
In August of 2012 a handful of vague but hintful tweets, Instagram photos and tumblr posts helped deliver the news of the band’s reconciliation. The band has been back in the mix with their original roster for almost two years now and recently announced they will be playing the full Warped Tour this summer.
This band was one of my top three favorites in middle school and for so many reasons. Their lyrics are so purposeful and moving…you don’t just listen to their music, you feel it, it feels you. This band means so much to me- the amount of their lyrics I would tattoo on myself is ridiculous. I am beyond thrilled that they are back and playing Warped this year. If you need help building a list of bands to check out, put them at the top. They’re even greater live. If you need some guidance on which sings to listen to first, check out their 2008 release, Same Blood Rush with A New Touch.

AFI
AFI is one band that started out on Warped Tour in 2000 and continued to rise to fame from that point forward. They did Warped Tour a few more times after that and became very successful as a band. They’ve been around since 1991 and have grown bigger and bigger over the years. They had a brief time when they weren’t doing anything but now are back in full swing and are better than ever.

CASSADEE POPE
Many may know her as the winner of The Voice but others ultimately know her as the former vocalist of pop punk band Hey Monday. Who doesn’t remember those classic teenage year songs “Homecoming” and “How You Love Me Now”? Now she is a top charting country artist but during her years in the band she played Warped 2010, where she definitely learned how to be a real artist.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
There have been a lot of bands that have been on warped tour and broken out. One of them being The Devil Wears Prada. They were on Warped Tour for the first time in 2008 on the Hurley Stage. In 2009 they came back and played on the Main Stage. In 2011 they played the full warped tour on main stage again. Now they are coming back in 2014 for the 20th anniversary. They’ll be on the whole tour again on main stage. They’ve grown so much as a band and have had a lot of success. Not only have they played Warped Tour but they played Mayhem Festival in 2012. The Devil Wears Prada has gradually grown into a successful metalcore band. I can’t wait to see them on Warped Tour this summer.

EMINEM
Infamous rapper Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, although now a big superstar who collaborates with big names on his albums, started out his career a few short years before he joined the Warped Tour lineup in 1999! After fifteen years his career is still going, there is little hope that he would actually return to Warped, especially after his side project D12 was kicked off of Warped Tour in 2001. In his days at Warped, he drew in a large crowd of people and in turn it could be said that being on Warped Tour help skyrocket his raise to fame.

GREEN DAY
6 albums and several world tours, but did you know that Green Day played the Vans Warped Tour back in 2000? Prior to playing Warped Tour the band released six albums including 1994’s Dookie which became a breakout successful for the band and sold 10 million copies and 2000’s Insomniac. Following their stint on Warped, the band released their rock opera, American Idiot, have won 5 Grammy’s and have sold over 75 million albums worldwide.

KATY PERRY
Pop princess, Katy Perry’s on top of the charts with infectious songs such as “Dark Horse,” “Roar” and recently the ballad “Unconditionally.” In 2008, Katy Perry played the entire Vans Warped Tour on the Hurley Stage following the release of her album One Of The Boys which featured her hit track “I Kissed A Girl.” Katy stated, “I learned so much on the Vans Warped tour because I don’t think the crowd was there to see me, so I really had to win them over every single show,” “That was cool and I was happy to do that because fighting for their attention helped me get where I am today.” And fast forward to present day, where Katy Perry is releasing hits and taking over the airwaves.

SOONY MOORE (SKRILLEX)
An artist that might not come easily to mind from Warped Tour because of his change in genre is ex-vocalist of From First to Last, Sonny Moore. Sonny Moore who is now the six time Grammy award winner Skrillex, dominating the dubstep and electronic music charts, first started his music career in the post-hardcore scene. During his time in the band he played two years at Warped Tour, in Warped 04’ and 06’. However, even after his departure from the band in 2007, Moore came back out for Warped 2010 as Skrillex. While the band made great success themselves during those times, Sonny Moore definitely went big right after in his solo career started.

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS
Although now Thirty Seconds to Mars is touring arenas, selling out concerts and their vocalist Jared Leto is out winning an Oscar, we can see that their music has always been very meaningful. They have never stopped connecting to fans and even after their success they will be touring with other big names such as Linkin Park and AFI this year. While they have done extensive touring throughout their years, they made some room to be at Warped 2006, where they gained even more of their fan base.

Uh Huh Baby Yeah! are the Official BBQ band for Vans Warped Tour this year! Amandah Opoku caught up with Sean to talk about their stint on the upcoming tour and new record!
AO: You are Warped Tour’s Official BBQ band this Summer! For those who don’t know what that means, can you provide a brief description of the title?
SS: After a long day of work, its time to cut loose. The BBQ band is responsible for bringing the after party, keeping a well stocked array of beverages, as well as grilling up your favorite summer foods. You’re essentially the hosts of the greatest 4th of July party ever!
AO: What are you most excited for Warped Tour this year?
SS: I’m just thrilled to be invited to the big show. Everything else is icing on the cake. I can’t wait to connect with new fans, make a ton of new homies, and see some of my favorite bands perform live every day.
AO: From past tours you’ve been on, what experiences and lessons will you take away and plan to Warped Tour?
SS: We do have experience with Warped Tour, as we were the catering band last year, so we know a little bit about what to expect. The main lesson is : NEVER STOP GRINDING. It’s a difficult tour. The days are long; when they’re not scorching hot, its pouring rain. You run on no sleep. You travel all night to get to the next venue. You simply cannot stop. Get out there, meet as many people as you can, put your record into every hand, put up your posters and set times, network, put on a killer show, sell some merch, and at the end of the day, congratulate yourself on a job well done. Then get in the van and do it again tomorrow.
AO: Earlier this year you launched a IndieGoGo campaign to fund a new record, how are the songs for the new record coming along?
SS: The songs are the strongest offerings to date, and I personally cannot wait to show them to the world. We recorded the album in Los Angeles back in January with Jeff Sahyoun (letlive.) and the guy really captured our passion and our sound, he just knew exactly what we were going for. We couldn’t have asked for a better recording.
AO: Are the songs different from the songs featured on your two earlier releases?
SS: They definitely have the “UHBY!” sound, but taken to new extremes. It’s bigger, louder, nastier, dancier, catchier, and more in your face. We wanted to take our blend of trashy pop music, and give it more rough edges.
AO: What kind of set can fans expect from you on this tour?
SS: Our set is definitely going to be high-energy. Everyone paid their money to get in right? We plan on putting on a show! We want to be that band that, no matter what time of day we play, or which stage, that the kids go home and tell their friends about.
AO: What songs are you most looking forward to playing on this tour?
SS: I cannot wait to unleash the new material we have recorded to the masses. It has great energy and intensity, and really can get a crowd up and dancing.
AO: Is there a particular city you’re looking forward to playing in. if so, which one?
SS: I always look forward to the shows closest to home. For us, that’s Indianapolis and Cincinnati. There is always an added energy there because your friends and family come out to see you. It’s a beautiful thing to look out into a crowd and see familiar faces, especially when you’re away from home so often.
AO: This year is Warped Tour’s 20th anniversary, which is a big milestone for this tour. What was your first warped tour like? What’s your favorite memory from that day?
SS: My first Warped Tour was when I was in high school. I wasn’t old enough to drive then, so I went with a friend. It was in Sparta, KY which is a motor speedway. All day in the heat, on blacktop! It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Here was Good Charlotte, Midtown, 311, and thousands of kids that liked the same things I did! My favorite moment was definitely meeting Davey Havok from AFI. I’ll never forget he was walking around all day under a black umbrella to keep the sun off him like a boss.
AO: For the past few weeks Warped has been revealing their lineup during Warped Roadies, and everyone’s always anxiously awaiting that final moment. Who are you looking forward to playing with on this tour?
SS: I am so stoked for Saves The Day, Every Time I Die, Finch, Yellowcard, among others. And to see friendly faces in bands we connected with last year like The Summer Set, Echosmith, Beebs, etc.
AO: If you could only go the entirety of Warped with one item what would it be?
SS: TOUR WATER. Everything else can be acquired on the way.
AO: What advice can you give to other bands hoping to break out into the music industry?
SS: Never stop. Never stop working, never stop playing, never stop getting your name out there. Every show, every friend you make, every album you sell is that much closer towards your goal. Believe in yourself, and have the discipline to follow your dream, no matter how difficult your odds may be. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I saw there were some trouble in OOR fandom because of Warped.
Imagine how hard were be staying in front of a new guest.
Ok, at gig were fans attending even only for them, too, but the rest didn’t know them. Maybe for this fact they looked a bit nervous at their performances but i know they really did their best.
I don’t say like they did their best just like they were “oh whatever who cares~”.
No guys.
When they say “we will always give our best” is because they care a lot of their fans and their dreams. To be a musician it’s also a job but after watching their last DVD i don’t think they don’t care really much about business. (Just watch it with subs cause it’s awesome the things they say.) I don’t even think that for them it’s better to get more money losing tons of fans.
After these words, all I want to say for all fans is to trust in OOR. Don’t be worried. For them, US’ fans are not important more than Japanese fans, or etc..
For them, ALL fans are important. This is why i always trust in OOR.
No matter if they look tired or serious. If it can help them we have to wish for ONE OK ROCK to reach all their goals, chear up for their future and to be strong. :)
