“OJO DE AGUILA”

Coachella, the “City of Eternal Sunshine,” has been one of California’s fastest growing cities, growing from 1,000 residents in 1946 to more than 40,000 in 2010. As a largely agricultural community with the state’s third lowest personal income however, the city’s challenges have led to a number of revitalization efforts, perhaps most visibly the Coachella Walls project which has sprung up alongside the city’s now 18-year-old music festival. For the 2016 festival Coachella Walls focused on the theme “American Woman” and among the artists asked to contribute was Vyal Reyes, aka Vyal One, who added his trademark eye at Vine and 6th Streets. LA native Vyal, who has been a graffiti artist for 25 years and is highly respected for using his work to speak out on social justice issues, dedicated “Ojo de Aguila,” which translates as “Eagle Eye,” to the women of the United Farm Workers.  @vyalone  @coachellawalls
