While I harbor no hate for Vythrosa I feel like eventually taking away the ability to trade characters freely will end up being more to it’s detriment-
imo, with this niche of a community this choice will alienate a lot of people who would otherwise be interested in playing and enjoying the game.
Kashigore is determined to distance his project from what he thinks is “closed species culture” but trading designs is not inherently tied to closed species and does not create the toxic environment on its own. That toxicity imo comes from a general community vibe/trading culture, which is perpetuated by artificial scarcity and the people in charge. Which, Vythrosa would have no issue with, because they are free to make and very adamantly NOT a closed species right ? Just some thoughts.
Right now, Vythrosa is banking on bringing in an entirely new crowd of people from the wider art community, and creating a genera where there currently is none. And unfortunately, there NEEDS to be a large community around it. In any other situation you could build up slowly over time, but $200,000+ is not going to come from thin air- and December (Kickstarter campaign) is one month away. My point is, the more Vythrosa tries to get away from being “like a closed species” the more it may end up loosing the players it so desperately needs. I want it to succeed as much as the next guy, I rly do, but I just can’t see how starting without a large community and having all those very ambitious goals is going to work out.
But we will see🍵
