Guess what babby boy went a bouncin on a new obstacle today~~~
The boy got a new collar!! Finally. The one we've been using was a full size too large, since //someone// ate his other one. (Not Wander, but Pandora.)) The store we got it at is actually really nice, and I plan on taking him there from now on, since they had the food we normally buy anyways.
(They may have also given us sample treats)
Also some training at Micheals! He did really good, despite one lady bending over him and encouraging him to misbehave. (Like wtf lady PLEASE LEAVE)
Everyone else was fine about him though, including a kid who was VERY excited to see the puppy but didn't try and come closer.
@thebarkpaladin
This is kinda what I mean, where he visibly slows down just to jump off the dock. He was doing it much worse than this for /every/ other jump but this one, but this is the only one I got that kinda shows what he’s doing, since I had no hands.
My friend also took a video here showing what I mean which is MUCH better, but you have to scroll through the photos from that day to find it: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxi1NbvFGY8/ In it, it looks like he’s reacting to my hands clapping; He’s not. I was trying to get him to start reacting to them clapping by clapping when he was about to jump, so I could maybe get him to go faster. It was... Unsuccessful.
Shaky and a bit dark, but Wander only just met this equipment today, and without treats or toys ((I forgot them like an idiot)), he went through a whole course and actually rather enjoyed it!! Obviously it wasn’t perfect but, I’m pretty damn proud of him!
Fun new bullshit wander is doing:
1. Growling at people he isn't expecting in our house. Which is fair, but now he's started to continue growling AFTER HE FIGURED OUT WHO THEY ARE. We're thinking it's partially cause of the stress of the puppy since it started then, and are working on it, but what the fuck dude.
2. Humping. It'd been better and now its gotten worse //Only// around Pandora and frankly I'm gonna chuck him out a window if he humps the puppy again.
3. He would very much like it if he could steal all the toys and destroy them. This isn't new. What is new is that my parents won't pick up any toys that are 'the puppy's', so there are more around. I can't even blame him.
Pandora reminds me of all the things I missed out on with Wander.
The socialization window and all the plans I made for that before I knew I was getting him, mostly.
And it's hard to move on from that. It's hard for me to go "yeah, I missed out on that period of time, but that doesn't mean I can't still do these things."
It's difficult, and I've been having a hard time wrapping my head around that.
But lately I've been doing it. I've been taking him to coffee shops to people watch. To home depot. To petsmart. To the park.
Because yeah, he's good now. He doesn't need to form the connections, he already has them.
But I need it to move on in training him, and I've been stuck because of that.
Training him means training myself.
I finally have energy again
It's been ages, since I felt like I could function well. It's such a pleasant feeling.
Wander certainly has been enjoying the up in outings and activity too. Been improving his llw, and he's been getting better with recall and staying near me when off lead.
Also, this dog loves the water? And jumping in it?
I was going to get him a lifevest, and still might, but he swims beautifully and jumps in after toys with so little prompting, it's great.
On our list now: Getting his CGC, starting/finishing the upper CGC criteria, and looking into dock diving. I have a feeling that even if he doesn't compete well, it'll be well worth it. :3
((Also discovered that salt water makes his coat VERY soft and fluffy. Who knew?))
Also, he was walking on leash fantastically after a few hours of swimming and playing fetch. Not that this video caught him doing the super nice bit, but hey, whatever, we're not perfect. I'm just proud of him for this, since LLW has been a challenge for both of us.
