Ainsley is a mysterious gent who lives on a homestead, somewhere between town and the Wilds that Old Ed lives in. The Wolf lives on his ‘stead, in the broadest definition of “living,” and both seem to have been there since long, long before the Town was founded, and will likely be there long after it.

Ainsley is a town darling. An affable codger, the kind of old man you can tell used to be a well-meaning showboat with a flair for drama but has since tempered out into an even keel, but still keeps a proclivity for funny, bordering on saucy stories, and an eye for subtler mishief than Ed. Sociable, with a keen eye for strategy.

As such, he can sometimes be seen even with a Poppyfeld twin, despite an overt and open dislike of both, which neither seems to pick up on. He’ll go for drinks to watch them try to comprehend how a man could out-man a lumberjack in masculinity and still be utterly, absolutely gay as a blade. Ajax and Cyrus seem to adore him as a fellow Man’s Man, and give him presents such as booze, and hookers—all of the local women of the night know Ainsley by name and adore him, and love when the brothers rent their services for him, because it means they can tell him gossip, or paint his nails, get some fatherly advice or support, balance their checkbook, or just have a nice spaceheater while they get in a nap between clients.

Ainsley tells Ajax and Cyrus what goes on. They both think he’s telling euphemisms for what really goes on, wink wink.

Ainsley also enjoys stoking their feud, in the form of telling each brother how much better the other’s present was. “Your scotch was fantastic, but I’m afraid it can’t beat the brandy Cyrus gave me last week.” Purely to watch their faces turn tomato-red as jealousy flares into a wildfire.

As for the oldest Poppyfeld brother... the two have a. Complicated relationship. Passion runs wild, for both good and bad, and the two can bicker like old enemies but something in their glance and touch hints at other feelings, caught between two very different goals. Tiberius wants something from Ainsley (or his property). And Ainsley won’t budge. Time will tell if they’ll be pushed closer together, or farther away...
