❝—Your story isn’t over Dan; but we all knew how mine would end. Call it destiny, or whatever you my, but Chuck’s always been the one. I knew it from the moment he told me he loved me — you knew it from the moment you sent in that video at the wedding. It’s not possible to fight gravity.
This isn’t the end, Dan; not when we even had much of a beginning. This is a few chapters in your book, if even that. You’ll be okay, and so will I.
—Go to Serena, she’s the one that loves you — she’s your happy ending.❞
he's fighting a battle he's already lost, and he wishes he'd realised it sooner ( though he doubts it would have made a difference ) how foolish was he, to think he could ever stand a chance chuck and blair, blair and chuck that's how it'll always be, he knows that now she'll always be beyond his reach
and she's wrong, she isn't a few chapters, she is everything and she's wrong, because he would fucking fight, if he thought there was even an ounce of hope and she's wrong, he'll never be okay again and she's wrong, without her, there is no happy ending for him
but only one thing matters to him ❝Are you happy?❞

❝Hardly. What you are witnessing before you, is a Blair Waldorf scheme developing. Watch and learn, Forbes. This isn’t child’s play.❞
"You're right. That's because it's psychopath's play."
your ice is melting ++ dan/blair
"i can't believe you haven't seen man on wire," dan says, shaking his head at blair as they come out of the movie theater. "it's got everything you love in a documentary. critical acclaim, a great soundtrack, views of manhattan — a frenchman..."
it's been two weeks since he and mrs. bass were politely asked to leave the met for 'shouting' about rubens ( please, he was barely raising his voice, and they were discussing nudes artistically. ) in that time, he has lost his wallet at the frick, gotten food poisoning trying to prove a point about street vendors and watched it happened one night at film forum more times than he would care to admit ( three times. they're trading off film choices and dan didn't want to admit that he's already seen everything showing at film forum that month... to blair or to eric, who takes him on as a charity case when he comes up to visit from sarah lawrence, and to whom it would be more than awkward to explain that he's hanging out with blair again while his sister is out of town. god, it sounds bad when you put it like that. )
it's weirdly like the first time. you know, in that blair is still guaranteed entertainment, no matter what else he may think about her, and that she's pretty much dan's only opportunity to socialise with someone who's not a blood relative. except for the non-matching wedding bands they're wearing and the fact that it's kind of awful to be in her presence sometimes, and really, isn't that an extra insurance policy on their new relationship?
"...anyway, it's showing at the sunshine theater next week. i'm going anyway, but i could grab an extra ticket if you're not busy, say, thursday after lunch." it's true that he was planning to go anyway. but dan's kind of sick of sitting in cinemas alone, and popcorn at the sunshine is always too much for one person. even if, as he's recently relearned, blair mostly complains about the amount of butter they use and then forgets about it five minutes into the movie.
the people in front of them finally filter out of the theater and dan steps out onto the street. blair's heels clip the pavement beside him. it's getting kind of dark outside, and he thinks about the bowl of instant noodles for one waiting for him at home. he looks at blair, uncertain. "hey, do you wanna... get dinner, maybe? it's just, it's kind of late, and cooking for one is a huge pain in the ass." he wonders if he's encroaching on the bounds of their bored-spouses-alliance and into the time when she, unlike him, has a family to get back to. "i mean, unless you have to get back already for — chuck, or henry."

Blair Waldorf is the character no one guessed on my Top Ten favorites list. I've seen a few versions of her, but this mun does it best. The only thing I want from her is more threads for me.
"Elena sent me for the Waldorf contribution to Founders Day. I'll be out of your hair in a minute."
