This is brought in tin pails, either in covered carts or upon asses. The boy and ass here represented are portraits. The cropped ears and jagged tail of the poor animal are striking marks of the barbarous taste of the little miscreant who rides him. The lad is nevertheless proud of his beast, as the following dialogue will testify, and may at the same time serve as a speciment of the West Yorkshire dialect. "You are well mounted, my little fellow?"... "Eye, ittle pay onny mule a toppot rooad: we gets 'em all ov a eeup, and then they rawm and kick while they scrammed owt ageean."
