It might come as a surprise to some, given my recent appointment as President of Ramblers Scotland, but today I had my very first proper walk with a ramblers group :-o I've always been a solo walker so it's a fairly new experience going out with large groups, and it's been extremely interesting asking everyone what their motivations are for joining the Ramblers in the first place. A real mix of reasons.
Today's walk with Eildon Ramblers was in and around the aptly named Walkerburn in the Borders, where my waterproofs got their first airing since March! I'd almost forgotten what rain was! Anyway they were such a welcoming, friendly bunch and given my cake & coffee weakness I was delighted to discover the walk ended at Caberston Coffee Shop with genuine home baking. It appeared to be a bit of a foodie mecca for both walkers and mountain bikers, plus I have it on good authority that their bacon and egg rolls are worth the drive from Edinburgh ;-) Oh, and we saw a pair of ospreys too. Nice day!! :)
