Grian, pseudonym - CuteGuy

Hybrid-Status: Presumed avian

Not much is actually known about Grian as he keeps things to himself.

He was never a member of The Hermits, only working as a vigilante side-kick to HotGuy at most.

Five years ago he disappeared (and was presumed dead) due to The Wall incident. Now he’s back in the desert and more secretive than ever.

He’s extremely focused on his plan, which will be revealed in due time.

He’s currently struggling with balancing being on the run and trying to make it big as a villain.

Though he doesn’t want to kill anyone, focusing much more on sending a message.

He’s got one foot in the past, and one in the future. Plagued by overthinking every current moment as well as remembering his past and trying his best to suppress what once was and justify to himself what he’s currently working on.

Random fact: Grian once tried to make Mumbo the mayor of El Santuario. It didn’t work.

Mumbo Jumbo, Pseudonym - None at the moment

Hybrid-status: Human

Mumbo moved to the desert with not a penny to his name after being kicked out by his parents at 16 due to him being trans. This turned out to be an awful idea as had it not been for the mad scientist known as Doc, he probably would’ve spent more than a year as homeless. Doc picked him up off the streets after hearing about the kid’s redstone abilities that he used as a smalltime-villain.

After a few years working for Doc, Iskall decided to take him in. The two worked together on various projects, and would primarily do bank heists/robberies to earn enough to get their weapons company up and running.

Mumbo was caught by The Hermits, and due to his young age they decided to offer him a new chance to get “on the right path” (possibly due to Scar taking a liking to him).

He grew close with The Hermits, but after the loss following The Wall, he went back to Iskall. The two have worked and lived together since then.

He’s struggling quite a lot with the fact that Grian is back, part of him is convinced it’s all a dream, or maybe he has finally lost it. He sleeps less, his appetite is gone, our poor Mumbo is not doing great when we first meet him in the fic.

Scar, Pseudonym - HotGuy

Hybrid-status: [CLASSIFIED]

Growing up in El Santuario, Scar was a pretty active kid and went onto become a skilled archer, even competing in other parts of the continent. However, this eventually came to a stop when Scar fell ill with an unknown disorder.

He decided to challenge himself to become a hero, starting out as a simple vigilante with a bow and arrows, he could be found perched on rooftops saving him from close-combat.

Eventually he was recruited into the Hermits and quickly gained an even larger fanbase than before. He had quite a hold on the media as well, and when Xisuma had to leave El Santuario for a few months Scar was picked as the man in charge.

This, however, was when The Wall appeared. He had kept close to Grian as usual, until he was forced to split from him.

Some media sources blamed Scar for the loss of an unofficial Hermit, leading Scar to leave the Hermits for a while until he could finally be convinced to rejoin the group.

When Grian was gone Scar focused more on unravelling the ties of the criminal network that runs through the city like blood vessels. This is done completely outside of work with the Hermits as the government refuses to fund his search for answers. “Surely it’s tied to Grian somehow, right?”

Scar is appalled that a new villain would ruin Grian’s “good name” and considers CuteGuy a rival.

Random fact: Scar’s cat Jellie has been the employee of the month every single month except for one. This was because Tango brought donuts in on his shifts for the entire month.

“It’s missing a screw,” Kass sighs, switching her gaze between the instructions and the half-assembled crib. 

“I’m sure it’s here somewhere,” Melaure says, picking up the bags and searching for...Screw C. There should be four Screw C’s, but Kass only has one -

“Here it is,” they say, pulling out a bag from under one of the pieces. Kass scowls at it.

“I don’t suppose your...friend has anything useful for building furniture, do they?” She asks and they level a look of surprise at her.

“Are you asking me to channel demonic power to build furniture?” 

Well, when they put it that way, “You won’t tell me what they are, so I’m taking guesses!” She answers lamely. Really, furniture is just too difficult to put together when you’re pregnant and the instructions are in a different language. Melarue had offered to take care of it themselves but she had insisted on doing some work with it. It’s her baby, she should be involved in these things. Yet, now she’s asking them to not only build it but also trying to enlist their passenger. 

“There are no furniture building demons,” they say and she raises an eyebrow at them.

“Then who put these instructions together? There are clearly demonic forces at work here.” She supposes she should be more uncomfortable with them being possessed by an actual demon, but she just can’t. They’re Melarue, they’ve done nothing but help her and be kind to her. They have been better to her than most people and most people don’t have a demon inside of them!

They chuckle and shake their head, averting their eyes slightly, “You are remarkably comfortable with...this.”

She shrugs, “You’re you, and you happen to have someone inside of you. That’s not weird or bad, that’s...it’s like being pregnant without the stomach and the gas, oh and the nausea.” 

“This is not a temporary condition, Kassaran, I will be like this for the rest of my life.”

“And I will be a mother for the rest of mine. Your...situation doesn’t change that you are kind and so good to me when you didn’t have to be. Most people would have just left that apartment. Maybe a good samaritan would call the police, but you...you were able to save me because of what you are, and you wanted to because of who you are. I am grateful for both.” It’s all truth. She doesn’t see them as less for what they are, she can’t. And she is thankful she can see them like this, because it just reinforces the reasons she left the Qun. The world isn’t black and white, and Melarue is the perfect example of that. They’re a better person than most unpossessed people. 

Their gaze is heavy and they are very still. “You are a rare person, Kassaran.”

“So are you, Melarue.” 

A heaviness hangs in the air in between them and after a moment, its weight feels uncomfortable, more like pressure than intensity. She turns from them and returns to the crib, her expression turning quickly into a frown. 

“I still don’t understand Orlesian,” she says. The moment ends, and while it was uncomfortable, she also misses it. It’s...she’s not ready to think about that. She just wants to build this crib and finish this nursery. 

“Why don’t you hang some of the paintings? I can finish the crib.” 

She isn’t arguing this time and gladly stops working on the crib. She takes their instruction and hangs the art around the room. At one point, she leaves the room to get them both some lemonade. When she returns, she stops in the doorway, unable to move for a long moment.

Kass stares at the nursery. She is standing in the doorway, staring at it as if it is just now sinking in she is having a baby. As if the growing belly and the alien inner movements weren’t a flashing “BABY INCOMING” sign already. 

Up until this point, she has thought of herself as a single-parent, and she is in the sense that she doesn’t have a romantic partner and she is having a baby. She is a single parent, but...she’s not alone. Melarue is still in the nursery, propping up the crib in the center of the room underneath the canopy they had installed earlier in the day. 

She doesn’t know why she hasn’t realized it before now, but it strikes her so clearly now. They did more than just save her from Qal, they have given her this new, incredible life. They bought this house with the idea of raising a child, her child, in it. It was renovated, fitted for all of them. 

They’re her child’s...parent. 

“Melarue?” She asks softly from her place in the doorway.

“Yes?” They ask, turning toward her. A few loose strands of hair fall in their face from their messy bun. 

“What do elven children call their nonbinary parents?” She asks and they pause, expression turning serious.

“Nanae or Nenae, depending.”

“On what?”

“Preference, mostly. If both parents prefer the nanae term, one will be Nanae and the other Nenae.”

She walks to them, offers them a lemonade, “What would you prefer?”

“Kass…” 

“You have done so much - you built this crib and this house and....for the first time leaving the Qun, I don’t feel like I’m alone. So, please, tell me what you would like the baby to call you.” She watches them close their eyes. After a long moment they open their eyes and return their gaze to her. 

“If I was a parent, I would want to be called Nanae.”

She smiles, they’re still qualifying it and not realizing what she has realized, she thinks, but it’s enough. Kass clinks her glass to theirs. 

“Good to know.”

okay here's a real hardball for you. in the wall au, when does Kass have to hold a baby pictures intervention for Melarue? how many scrapbooks and overstuffed hard drives and phone albums does Melarue get through before Kass is like "Sweetie......hhoney......I get it but please......Calm down...."? Also how many times does Melarue think about how they have got a cute gf and baby now and get emotional?

Melarue came here for a good time, but they are feeling seriously attacked right now. XD

Melarue’s home office is half full of books and half full of just A MILLION photo albums. Their office at the university is covered in photographs. All the students that are terrified of them because of their intimidating nature dread going to their office the first time and then just spend the entire meeting being utterly confused at how this hot, silver-tongued professor with the face of the world’s deadliest super model can fit that many pictures of a tiny qunari baby on their desk and bookcases. 

Oh man it strikes them at the oddest of times. They just look over and their life is somehow so good when all they’d expected was a continued existence of running and running and running. They’d accepted that the consequences of their pact with Deceit meant they’d never be happy and would always be alone but here they are, and Kass is beautiful and kind and wonderful and they’ve got a BABY and she’s perfect and she and Kass are theirs just as much as they belong to the two of them and no they are NOT crying they’ve just had too much wine and this room is full of dust!

After a horrible incident HotGuy’s sidekick, CuteGuy, is presumed dead - but what happens when Grian returns as a villain?
