Its a stretch, but what if the scene with Lydia in her dress was from a hallucination about her general fears? That night would obviously be traumatic and losing stiles could be a fear also which could explain stiles on the ground, seemingly dead. That could be what brings the tether thing back. Its just that the setting for both seemed similar.

I'm not sure that Lydia in her dress & Stiles on the ground are the same scene. I do think the tether thing is going to play into it more in the next few episodes, definitely.
