Bad call on Murphy's part. If Dems stake out the "anti-war" position, 1) they tacitly support Assad 2) it should undo all leverage gained from the Trump-Russia collusion theme. Further, Syria is not Iraq; it is an ongoing human rights cross that has had consequences on a global scale for the last 6 years and counting.
Tbh, I disagree. I don’t think an increased military presence or actions on the part of the U.S. is going to turn the tide of this hideous war. If anything the Dems should be pushing Trump harder on Russia because of this, given that Putin is Assad’s primary ally at this point.
I’m obviously no political strategist, but I don’t think we can just discount the U.S.’s previous failures in the Middle East and convince ourselves that this time, increased numbers of troops, increased bombing strikes, etc., etc., will go differently. The situation in Syria is a disaster, but there’s no indication of any diplomatic or strategic thought on the part of anyone in the Trump administration
