Artist Jonathan Schipper’s time-based, kinetic installations reveal the otherwise unseen passing of time. Cubicle, Schipper’s most recent installation at Rice Gallery, was occupied by seemingly ordinary office objects, but over the two-month exhibition the space gradually self-destructed as it funneled into a small hole in the gallery wall. Chrome Mirrors is a video collaboration with artist Jimmy James Canales. On view October 6 - 28, 2017 at Flight Gallery Presented by Presa House. Para Chrome focuses on augmented and absent bodies. Grids define a laboratory like space where armor, exoskeletons and customized packs are fashioned, where fragments are assembled, picked over, and pulled apart. Wearable sculptures, hanging with ominous inertness, are suspended in storage, waiting to be animated by human action. Film Stills from Intersections - As Seen on Colossal Pakistani-American artist Anila Quayyum Agha uses light and cast shadow to transform Rice University Art Gallery into a sacred space of her own making that is open to all. Intersections is inspired by Agha’s seminal experience of exclusion as a woman from Mosques, a space of community and creativity, while growing up in Pakistan. The wooden frieze emulates a pattern from the Alhambra, a palace where Islamic and Western discourses met and co-existed in harmony, and serves as a metaphor of union. Watch the Film.

"Justin Boyd, Department Chair of Sculpture and Integrated Media at Southwest School of Art, shares his connection with sound and how he uses it to create original works of art. Inspired by his sensitivity to sound at a very young age, Boyd has been recording and working with sound and music since the mid 90s. Boyd actively captures field recordings for integration of sound with found objects. This documentary was produced in association with Southwest School of Art."
Sweet little mini doc about well, read the above. Makes me wish I had more money and time to explore what he's doing myself. Always been fascinated with field recordings and foley work.
