Walton Hall
9th October
Ghosts of Walton Hall
Source: Haunted Rooms website
On this day, every five years, a ghostly white horse gallops across the lawns of Walton Hall in Stratford upon Avon. The horse was killed by an irate former lord of the hall who returning home earlier than expected, caught his wife in a compromising embrace with a young member of the royal family. The prince fled, and leapt on his white horse in order to escape, but his steed was felled by a shot from the wronged lord’s pistol. The faithless lady later found she was pregnant by her lover and gave birth to a son. The unfortunate boy was deranged, prone to fits and sickly. His shamed mother locked him away in the west wing of the hall where he later died. Like his father’s horse, on 9th October, the child’s ghost appears in the bar and library of the hall, which has since been converted into a hotel, seemingly calm, even friendly, but in Room 117 he indulges in frightening tantrums, throwing furniture and clothing around the room. It is assumed this room was the site of his imprisonment.
