I don’t know how to start conversations, never been the one to do that, usually either people come up to me or I just don’t talk at all.
But I’ve been trying to fix up some of my behavior, so I decided to start here. Seems easiest to me, seeing as we’ve both made some pretty messed up decisions but are trying to atone for them now.

Hi. I'm not great at starting conversations myself. I find that some people are.. scared to talk to me. But I'm trying to fix that.
I'm glad you decided to talk to me. I don't know many people here. Everybody makes mistakes, ours were just more public than most. But that is a part of life, I guess. At least we're trying to be better than we were. You seem to be doing a better job at it than I am, giving people something to believe in with your new team.
