It’s OK to Not Be OK

Steve had once said that it was difficult to find someone in this world with shared life experience. He was the only one (that he knew of) that woke up in the 21st century after being frozen for the best part of seventy years. He was the only one who was still playing catch up of what had happened in the world since the 1940′s. However he knew he wasn’t the only one who knew what it was like to lose everything and have to find a way to live with that loss.

When he had woken up, he didn’t have to only deal with the fact that he was in another time, but also the fact that many of his friends and most trusted allies are gone. They had said their goodbyes to him when he crashed that damned plane into the ice, but he still hadn’t finished saying goodbye to them. Sure, he might crack a joke here and there to show that the infallible Captain America wouldn’t be held back by a simple thing such as grief; but behind the facade of the ultimate American patriot, there was Steve Rogers - the man out of time.

Her experience was not the same as Steve’s, but Steve saw something of a kindred spirit in Wanda. She had lost so much too and circumstances had forced her to move on before she had a chance to deal with her grief. Wanda had lost her twin brother in the battle with Ultron and was drafted as a new recruit to the Avengers. Steve trusted Wanda and her abilities, but he knew she was in pain underneath what she projected out during their training sessions.

That was why he stayed behind one afternoon after a particularly intense training session. Usually he busied himself away with other business; that could wait as this was more important. He had heard from the others that Wanda preferred to hang around until everyone else had left. Steve waited quietly outside the dressing rooms for her. His intent? Offer his support to her and tell her she was not alone in her grief and loss.
