Above the clouds

With each step toward the CCC Overlook West Shelter, I resisted the temptation to look out until I arrived. Stepping inside felt like stepping back in time—the stonework, hand-hewn nearly a century ago, carried the quiet romance of another era. This little refuge seemed built for moments of pause, maybe even for stealing a kiss.

And then, I turned to the view. Oh, the view. Endless blue stretched forever, the Pacific rolling out beyond sight. Waves pounded the rocks far below, their rhythm rising through the cliffs. A billowy cloud drifted beneath me, dividing heaven from earth. I breathed in the mingling scents of sea and forest, felt the wind brush against my skin, and let every sense awaken.

Leaning against the rock, I let it all soak in. A surreal escape—timeless, soothing, and utterly alive.
