All right, here’s the deal: I’m going to be complaining during this episode. A lot. I think you all deserve to know why.

One of the worst feelings in the world is the nagging suspicion that you’re making a fool of yourself and the people around you are laughing at you behind your back. This sort of plot is that feeling writ large; you’re supposed to be laughing at Wander being an idiot. You’re not laughing with him, like you are during The Prisoner, and you’re not laughing at somebody who deserves it, like you are at Lord Hater during The Picnic or The Greatest. Wander’s a nice dude, a fun dude, a dude the audience likes. He doesn’t deserve this. Watching him make an oblivious embarrassment of himself is just...painful.

And I really, really don’t like it.

I realize I’ve been very negative about this show so far, and I don’t want you guys to think that I dislike it or want to stop watching it! When it’s on its game, it’s hysterically funny and very endearing, but it keeps doing...this. I’ve heard it moves away from this sort of thing later in the series, and I’m very much looking forward to that being the case, but in the meantime, it alternates between absolutely joyful nonsense and...this.
