In all fairness, nobody could know that they’d suddenly pull the rug from underneath everyone. Both box.com and dropbox.com were good hosts for years, box maybe had pathetic bandwidth (10 GB/Month IIRC) but if the files you shared there weren’t that big it was fine and dropbox just was good and lovely site that allowed you to link directly to files so you didn’t even have to go and click the download button on the site if you copied the right link. There were many good reasons to use both so I honestly understand why so many people used them. It’s not really that different from what happened for example to Megaupload, nobody could know that one day the site would just poof out of existence without any warning, too bad if you didn’t have backups of your files. At least dropbox and box didn’t both just disappear like that, they just downgraded their services.
