Talking with a buddy about it, but if there’s two kinds of posts you’ll never see me rb, it’s those ‘female characters are just as valid as males!’ or ‘every canon is someone’s OC!’, or posts along those lines. Why? I’m a firm believer in ‘practice what you preach’ and you should be able to scroll through the first page of my blog and see interactions not only with lady muses, but OCs, too. More than that, you should see actual in-depth plots and relationship development happening, too.

Those posts don’t mean shit if you don’t actually put them into practice, yeah?

I'm so glad I didn't watch The Magicians.. JFC SERA AGAIN? REALLY? IT'S 2K19

To be perfectly honest with you, I didn't want to watch it cause when I knew Sera was the showruner n' I was like nah fam.. She did so much wrong in spn that I didn't forgave her, even tho they said that the magicians was an amazing show.. now.. all I could say to the fandom of the magicians is.. I send you all the love and hugs and a FCK U SERA

The thing is with Rebecca is that the show does similar storylines with other bigger characters at the same time so you can literally see the massive difference in how they are handled. First, it was Moira and now it’s Ross.

Moira got all the content you expect of a character who just gave birth. They gave her a PND and a sick baby so she struggled and grew from it all. Rebecca got nothing. Just a lot of scenes holding a baby in the background. No depth on how she was handling it all. She was just there and held the plot together. 

Now we have Ross and Rebecca going through something similar except, we haven’t seen Rebecca talk to a doctor about her PTA or what that means for her future. She wasn’t even in the room when Robert and Lachlan were given the diagnosis. Ross has been in the hospital since last Thursday and there hasn’t been a day we haven’t gone without checking in on him and today we literally spent a good portion of Thursday double with him talking about it all with a therapist. Last week when Rebecca woke up and thought Chrissie and Lawrence were still alive, why didn’t we have the moment alone? Why didn’t we see her wake up and the nurses have to tell her and then bring Lachlan into it. As much as Ross and Debbie are coexisting in this story they both can live separately and tell different stories. You just can’t say that about Rebecca and this PTA stuff cause they’ve just kept it all offscreen or basically only when Lachlan is on.

That’s why it’s so hard to see Rebecca as a longterm character cause she continues to exist in a vacuum where she only has things happen to her to advance plot points and hold characters in place. She doesn’t live outside the narrative for Lachlan right now. They’ve started moving Robert away from her in many ways and are gonna pass her off to Vic for the next few weeks so Robert can mess around with Joe. Vic doesn’t have a plot right now so the show was clearly like sure why not have Vic handle her. It’s just shocking and really confusing. Maybe it will make sense in the end but it’s hard to see how it will when literally she’s still only interacting with the same 5 people on a regular basis and the Whites plot is so very contained to those 5 people.

Ever since @bartsugsy posted today about how the baby ‘has never been spoken about in a positive or exciting way,’ I can’t stop thinking about how real that statement is. Literally, since the moment she found out she was pregnant the baby has been framed negatively while in contrast baby Isaac has been framed positively for Coira and the thing that will bring them back together. 

Robert said to Rebecca the day he found ‘this will ruin us’ and it’s been framed that since. They’ve barely done anything with Rebecca and her POV. She’s barely experienced any sort of joy or excitement. She could barely show excitement for the baby shower, the nursery, or really anything. She barely talks the baby. There was one time where she expressed excitement about like a Robron co-parenting situation after the breakup but even that framed negatively cause she was like ‘it really sucks being the bad guy.’ Plus Robert’s ambiguous feelings are super clear by Ryan’s acting, which means it’s in the script. He’s said that during the affair he was told to act shifty and ambiguous at times to keep the audience unaware of how he’s feeling, but basically, Robert pulls the same ‘I want to die’ face whenever people bring up the baby or he has to fake care about it. The clearest moment we’ve had of his feelings was him telling Liv he hated it and that hasn’t been cleared up. 

The other strange thing is the show keeps reminding us that the baby and Rebecca are the reason Robert’s life is ruined and Robron aren’t together. We had Aaron explaining to Liv the reason he isn’t with Robert is because Robert’s gonna be a dad. We have Charity basically shouting to the whole pub on Monday as Rebecca walks in that she’s the reason Aaron dumped Robert. I guess another stark reminder of this was when Robron were having drinks after the Jason stuff and she interrupted them. It completely killed the mood and reminded Aaron why he couldn’t be with Robert. It’s just honestly the weirdest thing. 

What makes this all the more jarring is how Isaac has been framed. Everyone around Cain and Moira has framed Isaac as a positive for their relationship. Something that could bring them back together. That’s why Harriet dumped Cain. The baby has allowed everyone to talk about how much Cain loves Moira and that Harriet was really just him settling cause Moira didn’t want him. It’s crazy because they're even having Jeff play the reluctant dad bit very conflicted. You can tell he clearly /feels/ things he doesn’t want to about Moira and Isaac (because he’s protecting his heart). So it makes the whole situation with Rebecca and Robron even more confusing.

This is why I have such a hard time figuring out how they could make a co-parenting situation ever work or even make the baby work at all. There is no ambiguity in the baby in relation to Robron. It’s been negative for their relationship since day one and the show hasn’t stopped doing that, while Isaac has only ever been framed as a positive for Coira.

I guess on many levels I get why Priya is doing this. She’s been completely and utterly destroyed because of Rakesh and how he treated her the last year. She’s confused and lashing out in ways that she normally wouldn’t. Her self-worth is in the toilet and it makes /sense/ on some level.

I just wish the show would stop doing this whole let me list the reasons why we shouldn’t be doing this wrong thing and then suddenly have the women forget all of this to hop into bed with the wrong person. Stop writing women like they are so weak for dick and men’s approval that they forget their morals at the door. 

You can sell these kinds of things if you do it right but this is not the way to do it. It’s frustrating and gross to watch.
