Smarmy Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson claims that the US is not at war with Iran. George Orwell would sigh.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Thursday said that it is not necessary for Congress to weigh in on the Trump administration’s military action in Iran because the United States is currently “not at war.” “I don’t think we have an active, kinetic military bombing, firing or anything like that. Right now, we are trying to broker a peace,” Johnson told NBC News in the Capitol. “I would be very reluctant to get in front of the administration in the midst of these very sensitive negotiations, so we’ll have to see how that plays out.”
Johnson is so determined to kiss Trump's butt that he is denying reality in real time and is hoping that similarly inclined people will do the same. But in doing so, Johnson is contradicting The Orange One himself.
Trump himself has repeatedly called the conflict with Iran a "war," among other terms. On Feb. 28, in his first remarks announcing the strikes on Iran, he said, "The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war."
Johnson's war on reality reminded me of this meme...
In 187 Days we get a chance to remove one component of that kakistocracy. Don't let a single one of those days go by without doing something to flip both House and Senate in Washington.

It is overriding the powers granted to the legislative branch or just ignoring them. It is being justified with utter bullshit from both Trump and Vance. It is why putting the despicable mediocrity Pete Hegseth in charge of the military was very dangerous. It undermines any US opposition to China seizing Taiwan, which appears to be a possibility this year, and kind of normalizes the invasion of Ukraine by the Putin regime.
It is a dictatorial act both within this country and in the hemisphere, and is a return to the era in which the US asserted unlimited power over Latin America (right up through the kidnapping of Manuel Noriega, Panama's ruler, in the 1980s). "Amassing a personal fortune through drug trafficking operations by the Panamanian military, Noriega had longstanding ties with American intelligence agencies before the U.S. invasion of Panama removed him from power." It is happening within weeks of Trump's pardoning the former president of Honduras, who was imprisoned here for cocaine trafficking on a grand scale.

It’s not about drugs. If it was, Trump wouldn’t have pardoned one of the largest narco traffickers in the world last month.
It’s about oil and regime change.
And they need a trial now to pretend that it isn’t. Especially to distract from his sinking under Epstein and skyrocketing healthcare costs.
