Ways to approach the poll if the character isn’t a royal:
If you think they’d be from a smaller house, go with the Great House that that smaller house is sworn to (ex: House Manderly —> vote Stark)
They don’t have to be a nobleperson, they can be someone working for the house or being ruled by them. Roles could be a sworn-sword, a septa, a butcher, a blacksmith, or even a lowly peasant.
You can consider the region itself. For example, if you feel the character would be from Dorne, pick House Martell.
You can consider the personality of the character. For example, if your character is all about honor, then consider either House Arryn or House Stark.
Last, but not least, be creative with it! For example, there was a comment I read that the character who was the subject of the poll would be pulling a Littlefinger, so they went with either Lannister or Tyrell as that would be that character’s target houses.
Donavin paused at the ornate door, casting his hand across it to unlock the shadow magic in the correct combination that would unlock it. The series of complicated gears and cogs shifted without much metallic sound and he slipped inside Teir's private quarters.
It was unexpected, that the drapes were pulled open and sun spilled in to the lower half of Teir's suite while he sat nearby with a book.
"You're awake?"
Teir nodded, looking up at his son. "It's difficult to sleep with all these people suddenly populating the Estate."
Vin chuckled and moved to sit near him on the couch. "You could always go back to Undercity."
"Most of that place is cleared out, is it not?" Teir closed the novel he had been reading and rested it on his lap. When his son nodded, he set the book aside and opened his arm to invite him in. Vin shuffled closer and rested in his Father's embrace with a sigh.
"Sorry about all the people."
Teir chuckled and worked his fingers through his son's ponytail, working out any tangles. "When you build a house, people tend to need a roof. Besides, this is your legacy, not mine."
There was silence between them for a few minutes. "Are you lonely up here?"
The Shadow Lord paused and moved to see Donavin's gaze. His son's uncorrupted gaze often made him feel as if he were looking in a past mirror and the youth looked back at him, knowing his Father was contemplating the direction of the conversation. "Your first love will always be your first, Vin. But don't let it keep you longing. You are young and have lifetimes to live."
Donavin nodded, letting the words sink in as he settled back into his Father's embrace. "I'm here if you feel like it's too busy here. We could just go somewhere quiet for a while if you want. Even find you another condo somewhere."
Teir closed his eyes and smiled. "I will always be where you need me, Vin. "
Donavin nodded. "Okay. But I think we'll have to order some more food."
