° Das Davarris. Blue Surana.
“All his usual exuberance, all the noise in his head, all the words, images and thoughts that usually buzz around him like a swarm of bees, they quiet down in her presence. He always takes a step away from all that to listen to her silences. Blue’s silences are the good sort. The kind that’s made of lights, shadows and reflections, like sun shining through the treetops, moon casting reflections off the water or morning mist rising from the hills… The kind that heals.”

° Dasahngaris.
When he awakes after the Joining, the Taint is strong in his system - so he wakes up to some heavy Blight sickness symptoms. Much of his hair has already fallen out and he’s losing even more. That shit just comes off his head in big clumps. The moment he gets a bit better, he asks Thom to shave his head. His hair eventually grows back - but much thinner than before and heavy with premature frost. He keeps it short ever since. Super short whenever it starts getting patchy.
Though his symptoms come and go depending on his overall mental and physical health and his use of Blight magic, he does deteriorate over time. He dreads the rare meetings with Dorian - because as much as he tries to hide it, Dorian finds those changes somewhat off-putting - and extremely worrying. It’s just one of those things they rarely address in conversation - but it’s there with them. And it gets between them a lot.
After Thom Rainier almost attacks him in the heat of the battle (dark cavern, too many blighters - and Das looking and sounding very much like one of them), Das quits Blight magic for a time - and, while that time lasts, he abstains from it completely. When Thom dies, he snaps right back into it.
After he relocates to Rivain, he turns away from Blight magic again - but his state keeps getting worse over time and it becomes apparent he’s pushed his luck too much and past the point of no return. The cure is his only hope now and he doesn’t really expect to get his hands on it.
As his symptoms get worse and the Calling grows stronger, he withdraws from the enclave. He gets his own small boat, some rowing distance away from the cluster of ships, basically quarantining/exiling himself. The Isanans have a set of instructions to follow whenever they approach him and an order to kill him when he finally snaps. “I ain’t going back to the Deep Roads. I’m fuckin’ done tryin’ to save the fucking world.”
And, frustratingly, he never snaps. But he always looks like he may be just a day away from it. And that’s the state Dorian finds him in when he finally makes it to Llomerryn.
