Well first let me start with some exciting, albeit not quite official news......Joe and I have almost purchased a house! ( I really hope posting that on the inter-webs does not jinx the whole process!)
Anyways, we have been going through the house buying process for nearly 2 months now and we are so, so very close to the finish line! (Insert squeals of delight and a happy dance here)
Now that we are nearing the end of the process I’ve been overcome with the need to de-clutter and thin out the items in our life that we don’t use.
If my husband is reading this he is probably shaking his head right now thinking, “I’ve been trying to get you to get rid of all this crap for almost two years and now you suddenly have come to this conclusion to get rid of stuff?!??”
I love you husband!! Thanks for putting up with me and my stuff that I can’t part with because I might need it someday for....ugh.....who knows what but I better keep it just in case. :) You’re the best!
Aaannnnnyways, I’m now on a mission to only keep the things we love and use or have sentimental meaning. This also pertains to my wardrobe. I’m not sure how I stumbled onto the idea of a wardrobe capsule but the idea really put my wardrobe into perspective. Currently I have two closets full of clothing and I rarely wear the majority of it. Wouldn’t it make more sense for me to thin things out and concentrate on purchasing fewer items that I really love to wear?? (Check out Unfancy and her wardrobe capsule formula to see what I’m talking about)
Yesterday, I started getting rid of items that I have not worn in the past year. If there were any items in question I put them into a pile of clothes to wear over the next two weeks. If I can’t shuffle them into my wardrobe in the next two weeks they are getting the cut. Some items that I do wear may also get the cut depending on how they make me feel. Case in point: I’m wearing a pair of harem-trouser-anthropologie-theywereonsale-pants today that are sooooo not me. I really wanted them to be me, I tried to make them be me......but alas, the harem pant look is for someone else. And that someone else probably doesn’t have hips and an ass because my goodness gracious these things look ridiculous on my childbearing derriere.
Surprisingly, it was easier to let go of items knowing that it would help me to focus on buying things that I really love and that make me feel pretty. I pretty much wear the same stuff all the time anyways.....I might as well invest in some quality pieces that will hold up to the wear and tear!
