At the Andy Warhol Museum, I did this nearly 5 minute screen test in the Warhol Superstar style of the Factory. As far as I can tell, I was the only one around to brave it (a couple of onlookers dared me) and it ended up in my spam folder so I had to save it a second time too. The quality is crap since the two flash lights didn’t work. I wanted to create a half light/half dark background to reflect a split personality but the only reason you can even see my face is because I chose the half light. I consciously stay still for the first whole minute—pretty impressive might I say—then slowly do more impressions, first minute then more dramatic. I even put my mask on and take it off, pulling it down to reveal lion teeth. I’ve seen plenty of movies, documentaries etc. on Warhol and his tributaries—I still think I Shot Andy Warhol (1996) is the best iteration. But here I learned more about the breadth of his entire career. It would be amazing if me and friends could create a Factory-like artistic space in contemporary NYC, particularly Queens—trust me, it’s been in the brain-stem and conversation for quite a while—though we would actually produce worthwhile art rather than recording hours of people doing their dishes and making out.
