Greta Garbo’s Screen Test. May 25 1949
“That’s me, I’m a lurker. Joel asked me to come along to the screen test. I was very curious, but at the same time I had just gotten the job myself. I didn’t want to be in Emmy’s face. I was skulking about in the back, actually, until Emmy came up on the monitor. I grabbed Joel and said, that’s Christine! I know it! Everything about her embodied Christine before she even sang a note. She proceeded to sing like an angel. I looked in her eyes and saw so many things. She was beautiful and sensual, but also very innocent. I saw a real sadness in her eyes as well. All that before she even sang a note. I thought, at that moment, a star is born. I really did. I thought she was the one, then Joel says she’s sixteen! She’s definitely the one.”- Gerard about Emmy’s audition/screentest for the role of Christine
Henry f*cking Wilson. How dare you use and abuse this preacious guy. Look at that face. JUST LOOK AT IT AAAAH
The @themuseumofmodernart uploaded Katharine’s JOAN OF ARC screentest! Although this role fascinated history major Kate, her test was simply made to show the advances in technicolor - Ingrid Bergman ended up playing Joan in 1948. You can see Katharine’s natural red brown hair here which was sadly darkened for her first big screen technicolor role later on in THE AFRICAN QUEEN (1951) Click the Museum of Modern Art’s website link on their account to find the video or click the link in my bio! • #katharinehepburn #joanofarc #moma #museumofmodernart #technicolor #redhead #auburn #actress #history #screentest #onscreen #1934 #1930s https://www.instagram.com/p/CD2nAdInlz5/?igshid=1ms5p0u00v1i1
