Extraordinary Act of Compassion during a War
In times of war, all we hear about are long and various reports about sheer destruction and numerous casualties. The goodness of humankind fails to penetrate through the pitch black darkness. More than that, the media teaches us that war breeds an extreme degree of hate. Having stated that, it’s almost impossible to hear about acts of compassion during a war. Nevertheless, there are rare events that show how mankind’s compassion endures the trials of time. Although hardly believable and extremely rare, kindness and love can sprout even in adverse times. In return, the locals provided us with whatever little they had. Eventually, trust and cooperation between us birthed to a deep, strong friendship. Kindness is immanent in humans. Despite wars that create chasms, humans are good by nature. However, we don’t see such instances on the media. The media focus on an episode of war and change some parts of it to deceive the viewers. This explains why we perceive war as a total abomination of human goodness. In fact, it teaches us to blind ourselves from the miracles that could happen during a war. Adversities often bring out the best in people—one that defies the relentlessness of wars. This leads us to the conclusion that no act of malevolence will absolutely extinguish compassion. My views in life may have changed when I came back with a discovered personal version of truth, but one thing’s for sure: no total darkness will ever totally eliminate kindness.
