WARWICK MARKET IN DURBAN
WARWICK MARKET IN DURBAN
Today(01/02/2019) I visited Warwick junction in Durban, the whole of OT4 class went there to have the experience of that community. I am from Limpopo, and have been in Durban for four years at least and i have always passed the market when I went to town, the Durban CBD but today just had to be the day I get to experience the other side of Durban I have been ignoring and avoiding. we were told that the market was the oldest largest market with traders both formal and informal and had thousands of traders every single day selling their products.
The market is divided into different areas as seen on the picture above. there is ; the Victoria Street Market, with lots of crafts, The Barea market, where the trains come in, is made up of the Bead market with colorful Zulu bead works (Fridays only), the Herb market were traders sell their traditional herbs and there s also traditional doctors that you can consult at, The Lime market were the women there sleep there for two weeks then exchange with another group, they sleep under a bridge and have no security, Clothes were there too and traditional clothes at a cheap price compared to the Durban CBD market, Fruit & Vegetable market (The Early Morning Market) which is really cheap, i even bought potatoes there for R10 which i would usually buy them for R33 at the mall.
usually when I pass by the market when I go to town, I would assume that it must be dirty because of the commotion going on there and how busy it is. There were taxis and people all over the place pushing wheelbarrows and walking fast from morning till night. however when i got to the market, I could not believe my eyes, it is the most clean place i have ever been to round Durban. and the cleaners there are the traders there that occupy the place. that was the best part of this experience, that a place can be that busy but be that clean, there was not even a chappies wrapper on the floor through the markets. I was also worried about safety and unbelievable, that was the safest place one could be in Durban.
I would go back to Warwick any day of the year because i had the best experience.
Actually, i should start buying fruits and vegetables there not forgetting bead work too.
