Unfortunately, Silas found himself horrendously low on caps. It wasn’t very often this happened – but it also wasn’t very often that he stepped into an explosive trap that destroyed almost all his goods for sale. And ruined his clothes. He had already shed the useless leather armor, leaving him in a blue Vault 23 jumpsuit. His backpack had been destroyed in the explosion, which unfortunately made him stick out like a sore thumb. Regardless, he had managed to wiggle his way safely into Diamond City with only a few questions from the guardsmen, where he hoped to score a job or two.

The people back in the vault were expecting some much needed supplies. Coming back with anything was better than nothing. Things should be alright in Diamond City, as long as they didn’t accuse him of being a synth. Again.

                      “What do you want, Alia?” Hostility tinged his tired tone as he pressed his fingers against his forehead in an attempt to quell his rising stress headache. As far as he was concerned, Alia was every bit as guilty of her sister’s lie as the liar herself. Chris didn’t want to see her; he didn’t really want to see anyone. “If you came over here ‘cause you wanna feed me Eliana’s sob story, too, you can save it for someone who might actually believe that bullshit.” How hard could it have been to say two words? An ‘I’m pregnant” from her would have sufficed; it would have went down easier than an apology nine years later. To make it all the worse, his kid -- Josh -- didn’t know the truth, either. Apparently, Eliana had stuffed him full of lies, too. 

                        “You know, it’s funny, ‘cause this is exactly what I wanted. Eliana. A Kid. Guess this is what I get for wishing for something good, huh? It comes out like this.”

            Having just awoken, Josh crawled out of his bed and scuttled out into the Citadel’s halls. When his mother was away, he was meant to wait for a scribe or other caretaker to get him dressed, but he preferred wearing his pajamas, anyway. He peered down the hallway, catching a glimpse of a familiar figure. He toddled over to Paladin Cross, his sleepy eyes still half-squinted against the glaring lights of the Citadel. “Hi, Miss Cross,” he greeted softly, adjusting his soft, blue nightshirt. “Is Momma back?”
